When Should I look to get a record contract?
I'm on my third play through, and in previous ones I just told my manager to get a contract when I figured i could get enough songs on the album - that was my only criteria.

Since then a lot of updates have come through and now I'm second-guessing and confusing myself, especially when it comes to attitudes.

Currently I have six songs that are starting to become popular (3,2 and 4 1s). Quality ranges from 42 to 68. They're all positive attitudes obviously, but I think the attitudes may change shortly.

So, when should I time it to get a (first) contract. Basically, what's the ideal mix of circumstances to make a move in order to maximise my album ranking?

Any advice appreciated thanks!

Depends on your manager's rep. If it's under 10, get a new manager, then release an album. If you already have a good manager, then go ahead and release the album right away. If you are self producing through one of your band members, then wait till they have at least 50 Production of course.

But it all comes down to play style really. The small contracts for a low rep manager don't help you all that much unless you are RP'n the band.

OK, thanks. So, can a self-produced album hit the charts. or are they for gig sales only?

I think it could also depend on difficulty level you are playing. At higher difficult levels you need minimum of 40 song quality, which is not always easy. And even if you can hit that the CD will only chart very low.

A self produced album can make the charts as long as you do one simple thing. Re-release it when you get a contract. That's right, there is no prohibition to releasing a previous album again, if the previous release was not under a contract.

Just to be clear, a self produced album differs from a self released album. You can self produce in the recording studio for any contract, but a self released album won't ever chart.
