General Quest 3 + HereSphere questions
I've been using HereSphere (Steam version) with my Samsung Odyssey+ headset for a while now, and I'm planning to get the Meta Quest 3.

Questions:
#1. Do I have to buy the app again on Meta store? Or is there a way to transfer my license somehow?
#2. What's the best way to watch 8K videos without storing files onto the Quest 3?
#3. Is it possible to play videos from your PC through USB-C (connected to Q3)?
#4. How good is the video quality on the Quest 3 when compared to a headset with DisplayPort, like the Reverb G2? 10% worse? 20% worse? (PC spec: RTX3080, Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 32GB RAM)

Thanks in advance

1) If you want the Quest standalone version of the app (meaning no PC required), then you'll need to repurchase the app on the Meta store. However, you can stream PC VR apps to your Quest headset using the USB link cable, Airlink, or Virtual Desktop (my recommendation), so the Quest standalone version isn't needed.

2) Easiest way is just to use the PC version of HereSphere and stream it to your headset. If you do use the standalone version, you can use SMB (windows file sharing) or apps like XBVR which sets up a local http server that you can access using the HereSphere web API.

3) Sort of, if you just use the usb link cable and stream the HereSphere PC app to your headset.

4) I don't have a Reverb G2, so I can't make a comparison. But I'd say the Quest 3 is the best choice for most people, with the Big Screen Beyond headset also an option if you already have tracking stations and Valve Index controllers.

So, for the best image quality on Quest 3 which method would you recommend? Assuming, I have great wifi (dedicated router, direct line of sight, 6Ghz, 2.5G port...etc).

If I understand the tech correctly, ultimately it's "decode video on PC > stream to Q3" vs "stream file from PC > decode on Q3". I can't tell which one will result in a better looking video or smoother experience...I'm guessing wired PCVR streaming...but wouldn't virtual desktop add another layer of compression?...

Might be a dumb question, but If I plugin the USB Link Cable while using HereSphere (Quest Standalone), wouldn't it be able to read my PC's storage, and play it directly?

I'd recommend trying the free demo so you can make a comparison with your own eyes. Some ppl prefer the standalone, others prefer the PC version. If you get an RTX 4000 series card, it can do AV1 encoding, which makes the compression over wifi almost not noticeable.

HereSphere standalone app can't read local storage over USB. It needs to use either SMB file sharing or http streaming (like with a local http server such as XBVR).

You could use USB cable to use oculus link, but you could also use AirLink, which doesn't require cable. It's great to sit on sofa and stream some 3d videos you own and there are no cables around. Though in this case you gotta watch your battery level

Could you please elaborate on why VD is your recommendation? And did the release of Steam Link change your mind?

VD has AV1 encoding and support for passthrough for the Quest headsets. Quality is better than Steam Link, in my opinion. Steam Link uses foveated encoding that can't be turned off, so it looks blurry near the edges. Pretty annoying it can't be disabled (unless that has changed since the last time I tested it).

I see, thanks for the reply. Can we use VD passthrough for HereSphere yet or?
