What does the original script say
Something along the lines of:
1) And now, a word from your newest Senator!
2) Hold it! You can't fool us any longer!
3) I know the truth! You're a man, right!?
4) Which means! Your educational credentials are total lies!
5) True, I have lied about my gender! I mean, I am a demon, after all.
6) Cuteness reigns supreme!
7) Entourage: "That's right!"
8) Fan: "I don't even care!"
9) Bystander: "As long as you're cute!"
10) And so, they all found out that they have been spectacularly deceived!
Quite a marvelous job, indeed!
In this context, the "Tolerant" line is... actually really funny and topical for both sides of the aisle.
Though I'm sure the term "Trap" applies
I'm pretty sure Trap is only a slur if it's used to describe a MTF Trans Woman, I think it's okay if it's used for femboys or crossdressers... but eh... this was probably safer all things considered
I disagree. I don't find the "tolerant" line funny at all. Just translate the game as it's intended. Don't write dumb stuff like that. This scene had nothing to do with trans people in the first place. It was just a demon lying about its gender on purpose.
EDIT: The safest thing would've been to translate the game properly.
"Overzealous editing" is what I would call it.
Errr no. Ippon Nicchi is the one who made the game. So NIS are basically altering someone else's work because they are not the one who made the game. They only localize/alter it for the western audience. I'm sure the Japanese version still retain it dialogue, but remain japanese.
NIS = Nippon Ichi Software
NISA = Nippon Ichi Software America.
NISA is just a subsidiary of NIS. They handle the western localization of NIS games.
The trap joke doesn't exist in the original Japanese script. It never did. That was just NISA butchering the script as usual. I doubt NIS actually approved it.
Probably not. But I got the game digitally and physically for Switch anyway. So that single line is kinda moot. Also kept the PS3 copy too if I want to go back to that if I wanna see that single dialogue. (I won't)
Ok.
The original version didn't have the word trap either
MTF- Male-To-Female
Love you Dion for giving us "all dialogue" options. :)
So glad this thread attracted you. I love your beautiful brain! :)

"Everyone was brilliantly deceived!
Thank you!" (google-translate)

I am not sure how and why it was changed to this... What exactly happened 8 years ago that is worth mentioning here? I am not also sure how uncensor patch uncensors anything if there was nothing to uncensor in this phrase to begin with. There were no trap jokes at all in the original text.
I am more concerned that list of educational institutions that Alraune allegedly attended was mistranslated:

As you can see all three names have 女 (woman) kanji in them which explains the accusation that he didn't actually attend them because he is a dude.
But in English there is no mention that any of those are woman-only and accusation loses any sense:

There should have been "Girl Academy", "The Women's College" or something like that to keep the idea of the joke.
