Desco's epilogue?

Can't get Protect to activate. Valvatorez is the leader of both the Defense Fortress and Legendary Tree and Desco is a member in both and set as a stebsibling. Val does prevent damage to Desco from AoE attacks when Desco is behind him and the text says 'Guard'. I have been doing this for some time over several battles but the Legendary Tree event does not occur. What am I doing wrong? Please help.

I had a problem on the same epilogue and it was because I'd reincarnated Val... which I didn't realise reset the Legendary Tree. If you haven't already, I'd say just double check she's still a step sibling in the tree.

From your post I can't see anything amiss otherwise, but just in case anything sticks out here's how I did it.
On 1-1 and just had my characters single attack (I shouldn't think AoE matters, though) Desco while Valzy had defended next to her. From memory it only counts once per turn... but don't quote me on that bit!

After a reboot it just started working. Strange.
