Why so extremely expensive?
Even on sale the season pass + base game are around 100 euros...

I mean, I like to support anime JRPG projects like this, but the game looks like it's AA at best, low/medium budget. Why would I spend 100+ euros on this?

It's like Ys IX, also really wanna support that title but these publishers are just pushing these ridiculously high prices. It can't be profitable like that, right?

Because it is not original game, devs pay money for using Fairy Tail World, stuff e t. c. To me game looks exactly like anime (at least, in 4k). Also you do not need to buy SP - you can buy stuff separately.

It still seems like a weird business approach or decision to price a low to medium budget game so high. It cuts off many potential customers.

For example: Bandai Namco gets it. They have so many great sales and deals on their anime games, which makes their playerbase and fanbase grow exponentially.

I hope Koei Tecmo adapts a more consumer friendly approach in the future. Can't help but feel they are milking the wallets of their most loyal fans.

The first poster argument falls absolutely flat when you realize koei does this with 90% of their games. Original games included. They're just greedy.

Does the SP have all the dlc?

Exactly. KT is just greedy they won’t even discount DoA5 stuff to push 6, the EA method of not discounting Sims 3 to push 4… ,

Even Activision has had better sales/pricing on certain Call of Duty games and they’re dreadful with sales. But none of them have the gross DLC that KT games do. I’ve wanted to get Atelier on PC for years but the sales are awful. I already bought quite a few on PS3 and PS Vita… meanwhile I triple dipped on Senran Kagura, Neptunia games both digitally on Vita and PC for cheaper than buying the Atelier games.

I’d maybe pay the ridiculous “sale” prices if not for the abusive dlc that doubles the cost back. That spoils every game for me from the publisher so I keep that in mind when looking at their sales. People hyper focus on how bad Konami is as a company but they release barely anything anyway, companies like KT are the real issue. If they weren’t Japanese they’d get a lot more flack.

Koei games don't discount much more than 60%, and not even during the usual sale times. Look at this past winter, very few were eligible. You have to keep price alerts mid year... still waiting for Toukiden, missed the narrow window last time.

And to be fair it isn't just Koei. The largest JP publishers are following this trend: Ignoring / barely discounting regional currency difference, setting record high base prices, adding DLC equal to or greater than base game. This is the future. One price regardless of platform, digital or physical versions.

"To be fair" That doesn't make this fair nor does "because others do it make it right". It's very simple if that's the future less and less people buy the games.

This explains why the game is only down 36% a year and a half after its release. I want the Deluxe edition (for exclusive costumes), but I wouldn't pay €56 in it.

I mean EA isn't as bad as KT, they had all the sims 3 expansions for around 70usd this last steam sale, which is a lot of content, though still a high price, but it is hard to argue you don't get a lot for the money spent in that case. KT on the other hand don't really discount any of there stuff beyond small sales.

Isn't the season pass just a whole bunch of overpriced cosmetic crap?

Just don't buy that. The actual game itself is great and is definitely worth the money, the season pass (like all Koei SPs) is only worth it if you're rich, have weird anime fetishes, like throwing away money, or all of the above.

@CaptainRex dont ever buy the deluxe edition the only unique thing you get is that one costume for lucy that they took from (in cooperation with) atelier ryza
the "limited edition growth lacrima are in the season pass as well and the outfits are either available seperatly or as a outfit bundle so the deluxe edition is not worth it at all and i regret buying it :D

@Kapika96 the overpriced seasonpass also inclused the 3 playable dlc character bundles as well as the extra "hard" quest thing and the dungeon "a rift in time and space"
so while it is still overpriced its not only cosmetic stuff :D
and if you believe that this game is "definitely worth the money" for the full price
as a fan of the show id say your definitly wrong there are so many missing character/models and so many cut corners that the game is not even worth being a AAA title let alone a price tag that is still higher than other AAA titles nowadays

sadly in case of this game its treated same way hollywood treats almost all of theyr life action anime adaptations with a mediocre product that just wants to cash in on the name recognition from fans (like avatar the last airbender and dragonball evolution movies)

The post is over a year old, I bought and finished the game since. And yes, I bought the Deluxe version because Lucy is my favorite character so I wanted all those costumes. However, I did not buy it on Steam.
