What does luck do?

This is the only stat I'm not sure about. Can't see anything about it in the game. So, what exactly does it do and is it worth equipping lacrima to increase it or am I better off focusing on other stats.

[The Tempted Man]

increases the chance of a status effect and resisting them, perhaps better chance at critical hits

[Hex: Torture Enthusiast]

It's both Critical Hits and Increasing status effect chances etc. Once you get to 999 luck, almost every attack is a crit. Makes the game not worth playing.
