Freelancer is I think free on ModDB or some place, try google it. I still have and use Freelancer but with a Discovery mod which is also avail on ModDB. I am on Discovery 4.87 mod, found that the later ones I had installation probs, so left it on Dis 4.87

I did try the X series, waste of money, I cant get into them at all, and far too slow, controls weird - so binned it.

Closest X game to Darkstar One is definitely Rebirth. It moves a lot faster than the main series, and like Darkstar One, you only get the single ship which you can upgrade similarly.

Star Wolves then Star Wolves 3 (2nd one was really bad IMO, the first one is better than third), Starpoint Gemini series, Space Rangers HD maybe?

This guy knows what's up. It's pretty much Freelancer/DS1. Pretty laid back, has a banging soundtrack and there's built in photoshop that lets you paint your ship like a pig.

I took you advices everyone and reinstalled my original Freelancer which installed perfectly, and that as far as it goes. Wont even launch. I have been through the whole compatability scene to no avail I am on Win 11 home latest and updated.
