A mod for all upgrades?

Is there a mod that will allow a player to obtain all 30 upgrades? I don't want to start the game as a millionaire or anything else, the ability to get all of the upgrades.

I'm currently testing a personal one that does this, though not a legitimate mod. Just an ini edit. You could also do this yourself long as you can read basic english, not hard or anything to edit the ini files. They are located within the compressed game files, you can extract the ini file directory with a normal ol winzip/rar tool. What mine does is let you upgrade once every artifact, so 30 artifacts=level 30 all upgrades to ship and plasma cannon. I'm testing, because you will be around level 25 by time you reach flak missions (if you collect all artifacts upt to that point. So it will probably fail without a cheat, that mission will be way to hard and pretty much fail everytime.


I can teach you quckily how to do this yourself.
Go into game directory look for a file called: "ds_add.cpr" use winrar tool select "extract here" Now take that file back it up, just make sure it's removed from directory or renamed it the ("ds_add.cpr" file) now go into the folder called: "inifiles" find the file called: "Upgrades.ini" there at very first when you open it (with word pad note pad or notepad++) you'll see this, just looks different then what i pasted as this is what I used to mod the game. Now just take everything below in the post copy then paste it over top what your file says there.
Ok once you done save that ini edit. Now while still in inifiles directory look for "ini_file.bin" delete that entirly now just start the game, it will recreate the "ini_file.bin" by itself.
You will now beable to upgrade 1 artifact per level if you cant get a flak mission cheat to work wait untill after those mission to max level else you probably wont beable beat that flak mission. Think normally you'd be bout level 13 at this point I can't remember.



Paste the below in your file overwritting what it says or just modify it yourself using my paste as a guide.

Note I don't know what will happen when pick up 31+ artifacts (takes 200 total without mod to hit level 30 so that means with mod there is 170 artifacts you can still collect) one the reasons im still testing i started this mod back in 2014 but never fully tested it I can't remeber something came up or i got bored who knows was long time ago i'm currently at 23 artifacts probably hit 30 within next 4 hrs of this post but upto my current point all is working fine just dont max hull for turrets without taking energy consuptions into account so take hull to level 6 then do engines to level 6 then take hull to 10 then take engines to 10 also same factor should be took into account for the wing upgrades so u can stay in check with energy usage im one mission away from flak if i remember correctly which I also plan testing with that high level no cheat lol im still pretty sure it will be to hard as those enemies are based on your level for difficulty

I was unable to locate Upgrades.ini and ini_file.bin in the DarkStar One files, however, I did find ds_add.cpr. I did what you suggested but it didn't work. Thanks for your response though , I appreciate it.

it works u just not doing it right probably extracted it into a folder other than what i stated lol but w/e if you cant learn it then u just up sht creek my guess u extracted and they probably folder named: ds_add if so go into it and copy all the folders and then paste them to main directory can't say it dosn't work because I can prove it does

You have to delete the stated bin file to how this game works when its ran it creates that bin file which is all the ini files currently in that folder into an encrypted bin file so when u change ini settings (every time u edit them to) you have to delete the bin let the game re-encrypt a new bin file)

anyways if can't figure it out after all them screenshots then you shouldnt worry about it i remember a trainer awhile back let you do this i dont remember where to get it though google might turn something up with little time game is pretty old anymore older it gets harder it will be to find tools mods and trainers for it. So best you learn how to mod things yourself if you want new things to try

Interesting. I don't have any of those highlighted folders in the first screen shot. That explains why I can't find the files you suggested. I wonder why they are different. Perhaps it's the version?

no you just not extracting it properly look and see if there is folder in there called: "ds_add" if so go inside it and you'll probably see the folders i highlited if so copy all of them then go back to main directory and paste. Version has nothing to do with it because this game hasnt been updated in years lol we both using steam version never different because steam will keep it updated to most recent

i guess i could take zip up all them files of mine upload to mediafire or something but you going to get more than upgrade tweak as I have mission pay out increased at max level get like 2mil creds a mission at lowest level the give like 500K creds. comes in handy when you leveling quickly as ship level determines prices of all equipment. also i changed some things screwed with descriptions trying to get it where let me have 5 turrets at level 1 and wing weapons at levell 1 its just cosmetic as i didnt get it to work so dont bother nothing it just misleading when u goto upgrade screen also changes the jump drive pretty much 1 hop any where on map any time handy for smuggling and merchanting trying think what else it changed it unhides extra equipment and adds in higher tech for some the slot equips oh made jammer 100% chance to block just odds n ends to have little fun with.

Tell ya what i could do though just recreate my mod and only change upgrades for you but to be honest you need learn how to mod this game else you going find yourself wanting more or something new to try and wont know how to do it ya know?

Let me know if you want me to also if want 1 hop jump drive or anything i mentioned above to stay let me know i just re-create you a mod wont take me long couple mins just text editing all it is ofcoarse you learn how to mod editing wont stop there if i wanted i could change color of ds1 lol i just aint messed with it or wanted to yet

Okay, I figured out what I was doing wrong. Sorry, sometimes I can be a bit dense.

I found the upgrade file in the infiles folder and changed the numbers so I can get all 30 upgrades.

Thanks for the help. Quick question, do you know how to make the flak missions a little easier? They are a nightmare, even in easy mode. Especially the second one.

best thing make them easy dont upgrade till you past them or try old tricks i personally never had any issues with them but im a good gamer just some stuff in games people struggle with i never do. just an old gamer ya know. i grew up to games where you only had three lives so it teaches ya things just keep trying until you beat it. Just be careful with them quick upgrades try to remember where your level would be at that point and dont go any higher until after as your ship level is what determines the enemies difficulty in this game.

Right, I remember reading about that. I higher the upgrade, the harder it is. Kind of stupid since that mission has nothing to do with the ship itself. Anyway, thanks again.

np if i do happen to stumble accross away to make them easier i let you know i just casual play it on n off bout the same with the file editing. i like to tinker with stuff from time to time. Since you learnt how to mod/edit game rules of modding/editing are the same for all them other compressed files if you ever get to where u want to try things yourself or edit/mod game. Just remember to always back up or rename them compressed files just in case you screw something up

I tried this and I just get a crash.
extracting the files creates a folder. I ran the game just after extracting and renaming the cpr and nothing else and it crashes on startup. The game doesn't know how to see the folder over the cpr. Any tips?

Figured it out. Don't let the extracted items sit in a folder of the name of the container you extracted. put them directly in the main directory and it works.

Yep what i said I think in my first reply to andi. though i guess my lack of punctuations can confuse most people. In school i got good grades for writing stories but bad mark offs for lack of punctuations lmao. Now I'm old man still do it just something I never out grew i suppose. sometimes I run on for a long time lol ;) sometimes I actually use grammar and punctuations i like to mix it up.
