Sts was an amazing game when it came out but this builds so much on that formula its unreal.
Which is very fine. But I've played for several hours now, and I think you're wrong. Considering this is a new game with people who are uncertain to pull the plug and buy it, people like us who enjoy games should be careful in making claims rashly.
How long have you played? Have you unlocked more than one character yet?
This made me loose interest in the game. Which is a shame, because it looks great, the story aspect is fun, but i cannot play another base STS Character again...
Are the other heroes at least original? Or are they clones too? Are there new interesting mechanics to be explored? STS has tons of modded heroes with crazy mechanics, which often amazed me, how someone can come up with them. Will I have the same when i play the other characters, or will i find reused card decks?
I highly recommend trying the second character, Bjorn. A lot of people complain about him because he's very difficult to play, but if you're an STS vet, I think you'll be fine. Here's the basic overview: Bjorn pays for his cards with HP instead of energy. However, every 5th time he deals or receives attack damage, he transforms into a Werewolf form where he has bonuses such as extra strength. However, if he ends his turn in the Werewolf form, it's possible for him to get statuses or permanent (!!!) curses, or both, depending on which of his classes you're playing. In his Werewolf form, he has 5 energy like normal. In order to shift back into his human form and avoid downsides, you need to spend those 5 energy. Exactly all of it. On the flip side, it's possible for him to both spend hundreds of HP and heal hundreds of HP in the same turn. Really interesting, fun character, at least for me. Based on your post I think you might like him too.
The other character is a pet-focused summoner, also quite fun, but start with Bjorn.
