Strength gain in Bjorn lycan form

In the lycan form at the very beginning of the run I gain +5 strength at end of turn. But then on some point, usually near Act 1 boss fight it stops give me additional strength.
Description says Strenght 5, so the additional gain is a bug or what?

The +5str is from the axe he starts with. So i'm guessing you are exchanging the axe for another weapon.

Those items like armor and weaponry can give not only stats but cards as well. Don't forget that too.
