Knock on the Coffin Lid

What happened to my comrade at part 3?
I sold my mercy ring. Is it because of that that I can no longer summon my comrade, whom I got from the mercy card?

You have to have the ring equipped to summon them. If you look at the Knight class, it emphasises that he's been out of combat experience for a while. So most of the features of the knight feel like an early game reliance on others. By act 2 or 3 its perfectly viable to no longer use the ring as he's gotten that combat experience under his belt.

This, but the class is still kind of bad for this. All of his starter cards are ally-based, so you would either need to find one of the permanent allies, or have gotten rid of most/all of your starter cards before switching for a better Ring.

Maybe it gets better after a few runs, but it definitely feels bad right now.
