Sacred Gold

Sacred Gold

Is this game still worth picking up in 2024?
Randomly heard this game mentioned somewhere and I was instantly reminded of the fun I had exploring its massive world with my seraphim. I have played Diablo 1-3, Dungeon Siege 1-2, Torchlight 1-2, Path of Exile, Grim Dawn but this game had a unique hook that no other game could replicate. I don't mind if the graphics is outdated but is it something similar to the original Diablo 2? Have not tried the remastered version but I just couldn't bring myself to play it again.

Edit: Would you recommend I try Sacred 2 instead? Or both?

This is still a fun game that has it's own "thing" that makes it a slightly different experience than the ones you mentioned. I would recommend to get it on GoG instead on Steam thou and while Sacred 2 is an alright time Sacred Gold is better in my opinion.

Yeah it has that unique charm. Curious, though, any reason why you recommend GoG for this particular game? To be honest - not too keen on adding another client or platform for my games.

If you like steam no problem with me, I just also like GoG for certain games (older ones especially) as it is DRM-Free, I don't have to be connected to play my games and for some people steam makes Sacred crash and the like as it is one of the older games (of course if that happens there are some fixes).

Those are good points. I started with Steam when GoG probably only had a small portfolio of games. So there's momentum there plus a bit of laziness on my part. But now after trying out a couple of games I bought on random sales - in my library for months but still un-played, none worked! i.e. Dragon Age Ultimate, Mass Effect Legendary edition, etc. I may have to reconsider using GoG for older games. Thanks for the tip.

for me it's a Classic. Love the art style

personally I recommend sacred 1 over 2, but it boils down to personal preference.

Sacred 2 got a bit overcomplicated in mechanics to my taste. Also the 3d scenarios and camera are very clunky to navigate. Sacred 1 is an easier game to understand and more confortable to play with its fixed camera and perspective, and with the more simple system. Imho the world and story of 1 (which is a lesser aspect of a game like this, i know) it's better as it feels like a classic fantasy story. Sacred 2 has weird dune vibes that imho don't fit at all with their tolkienish world.

Still if you have played sacred 1 and want more with a bigger scope, sacred 2 is that.
