I have great fun with the dwarf. His cannon blast can get very powerful. I can't remember what it's called, but it shoots up into the sky and comes falling down on any location, blasting everything in the area. Strafing fire with the cannon is also fun.
Battlemage is a bit squishy the first time most people try him, but he has a skill that damages and blows enemies back at the same time, making him very easy if you level that skill up. He can also heal himself.
I have a great time with a leveled up Fist of the Gods when I play Gladiator.
I enjoy the Vampiress bats, but it definitely takes more skill to play her.
I think the Dark Elf also requires a bit more skill.
The Daemon can fly! Total fun for exploring the map more thoroughly, but be careful lest you drop her into a location where the enemies are too high-level for her.
The Wood Elf is squishier, like the Battlemage, but is a ranged character with lots of bow and arrow skills.
Don't try to level up too many skills. Pick several that you really like and stick with those. Don't forget that you can trade in the runes for other characters, and unwanted runes for your own character, in exchange for runes that you DO want.
Also, she can't drink blood by default!???
Combos are also awkward. I can link a lot of melee attacks with the Seraphim. With other abilities it just doesn't work all that well (like light shield and BFG summoning) and has a ridiculous cool down.
I haven't worked out yet what determines the cooldown period.
EDIT: I hopped on the game to check:
Put points in "Mental Regeneration", "Concentration" and whatever type of Magic skill or Combat skill you are using. Mouse over the different items you can put points into on each of the two tabs and you will see descriptions of what those points give you.
But yes putting points in the skills works as far as regen of the skill goes. Does it definitely also work for combos using that skill?
Yep. BFG is in CA section, thus it requires physical regeneration and concentration. And yes, it works for combos as well.
As to combos - don't overestimate their importance. Spaming same CA usually (not always) is better idea. For melee Sera combos are indeed great, because your arts include a lot of, ta-dum, combat. But for magic Sera they are kinda useless.
I, for example, cast RBOL, which lasts afaik 1,5 mins, and it melts everyone on touch. You can add light for more damage agains undead, and shield against archers - they are all auras. No need to put them into combo.
But man, dwarf is wonderful. People usually ignore him and just use a a gold mule. I turnt my dwarf into greedy killing machine with flamethrower and mortar. He is shooting as fast as MLRS, has insane amount of gold, literally swimming in a pool, full of rare set items. I can't say much about Vamp, but do not rush to judge. Some characters are indeed harder/easier to start or require special approach, but I would not say that anyone of them is bad.
