Underworld - Stuck between two deserts

It's been some years since I've played the Underworld Campaign. I completed the area between the two deserts some time ago, and also most of the quests in the Southern islands (Pirate Island, etc.).

Well, I was up North and trying to find out how to reach the quest area in the far NW section of the map (the Large Gate quest), but somehow got transported down South to this strip of land between the two deserts. Since I had some incomplete quests on the islands further South, I decided to go and finish them. I finally came back up to where the fire-breathing monster mouth portal dropped me off, but it won't let me return thru there.

I cannot find any other portal to return to the Northern parts of the map. I thought I vaguely remembered being able to open a portal on one of the islands (from previous playthroughs years ago), but I searched everywhere on them and couldn't find one. Does anyone know how I can get back?

While I also don't particularly remember what you could do (as I did all the quests before I moved on), you can either check the game viki for detailed info on many things (such as keeping the dagger for the giant in the elf forest), or you can always use the teleport cheat if you are sure that there is no chance of breaking a quest for a weird reason.
