Windows 10 Fix
Right so for those who read this and are unable to get it to work on Windows 10 here is a fix that i did, because you know this is an old game i mean who expects it to work just because Steam still sells it in 2018....oh wait nearly everyone leaving bad reviews about it not work.

1. Right click the game in Steam Library
2. Find the Application Sacred.exe
3. Use the right mouse button on it and click properties

I hope you can keep up with this so far i know it might be difficult to use your brain to follow instructions as well as try to fix it yourselves

4. Click on Compatibility Tab
4.1 Tick Run this Program in compatibility mode for (Windows XP SP2)
4.2 Run as Administrator

Click okay

Now if you made it this far well done!!

Now go back to the game folder you are in and find another application called config and open it

Have these options TICKED
Full screen (if you want it full)
32bit Colour Depth
Video Compatibility mode
Sound Activated
And log File if you want one

Have these UNTICKED as they cause issues in Windows 10 for me anyways
Play Movies
Filter Active (don't know if it does but i never had it ticked in the first place)

I'll also leave this as a post in the game forums

This should fix it for most people on windows 10!!! Have fun!!!

PS. I know i have no grammar and probably poor spelling but i don't care I'm just here to help more enjoy a classic game

please note that this isn't a fix for crashes that happen at random points in the game itself, but it allows you to progress and actually load into the game at least if people come across a fix for windows 10 and the crashing feel free to post it here

All you need to do is go to your steam game in your library, right click on it, then browse local files, then click on the config file, a little window will open select the 32 bit option. Works.

That compatibility mode thing has never, NEVER worked.

Sadly, neither of these solutions have solved my problem. Sacred runs and sits in the Taskbar using processor slice, but will not expand and cannot be closed except by using Task Manager.

i have resolution problems, anyone know a fix?, when i launch sacred 2, it works fine, except for the fact that the screen is projected to far to the right. So far, that it becomes unplayable. I suspect a video card driver issue, using win10 did everything i this list, any one have anyideas??

I ran the Testapp.exe and got the issue that CrazyJ talks about here, and have tried every possible combination from all the fixes listed here, nothing works. I tried all the different compatibility modes, with and without running as administrator, nothing.

Thank you very much, your solution helped with my problem.

I had managed to fix the problem with the first loading screen on my own and started my game and created my character but after a few minutes playing it kept crashing and closing itself, seemingly randomly.

But after setting the compatibility and letting it run as an administrator, like you said, I haven’t crashed so far.

So, your solution still works for some people, even now in 2025.
