Sacred Gold

Sacred Gold

Got the game running nicelly on Windows 10
I checked some guides here and did some testing, and this is what is working for now:

1. go to http://dege.freeweb.hu/dgVoodoo2/dgVoodoo2/ and download the last stable dgVoodoo. What was version 2.61.
2. copy dgVoodooCpl.exe and dgVoodoo.conf to the game installation folder. I think the folder doesn't matter, but why not?
3. copy all dll from the MS\x86 folder to your game installation folder (D3D8.dll, D3D9.dll, D3DImm.dll, DDraw.dll).
4. I overwriten the D3D9.dll with the one from the x64 folder as well, not sure is if better or not.
5. go to the Sacred Gold installation folder and execute Config.exe. Only have Fullscreen, Play Movies, 32 Bit Color Depth, Sound Activated toggled. Filter Active (AA) will create some blue lines in a few areas, and VCM will black screen videos.
6. execute dgVoodooCpl.exe that you set in the installation folder. At the top click Add and select the Sacred Gold Installation folder.
7a. at the general tab I selected my video card (Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 Ti), and at Full Screen Output, DISPLAY1.
7b. Appearance: Fullscreen, although Windowed would make no difference. Scaling Mode at Stretched 4:3 Aspect Ratio. Other options will make the visuals look darker or too small and stretched.
8a. at DirectX tab keep dgVoodoo Virtual 3D Accelerated Card, change the VRAM if you want, I set mine to 2048 Mb.
8b. Texture: Filtering set to App driven, Resolution Unforced, Antialiasing (MSAA) Off. Any of these 3 options will break the textures of the game by creating some grid lines. I used the Nvidia Control Panel to toggle the filtering options, although didn't noticed any huge difference.
Remember to click on apply/OK after all the changes.

EDIT: link updated.

What do you mean?
Despite grammar errors that I probably did, I believe I was as detailed as possible.

QEMU? Anyone has tested using this ?

i had to tell the dgVoodooCpl.exe to use my intel card rather than the nvidia one to have the game start in fullscreen. other than that this worked great.

Woah that worked great! Only issue is some of my menus and bright white with yellow text, which is virtually impossible to read. I'll tweak some settings and see if I can fix it, but does anyone else have this issue?

I did just the Win XP compatibility run and play only trough steam. Altough this particular setup is 2012 hardware.. Main issue was the 64bit os.

Few faults still, mainly the nVidia opening screen, and videos don't seem to work.

Fantastic Shaidon, great work in finding the answer to this. Been looking and hopefully for a work around to get this game working once again. Now I can get the Seraphim, Dwarf, Vampire, and Dark Elf etc, back running around whoohoo :) Time to find the leveling guides again.

Yes people the above instructions do work, as I can run this old game in 4k res @ 3840x2160. Though had to slow the mouse down, was a bit twitchy for this old gamer :)

Cheers for your hard work. Thumbs up.

This is all I had to do:

The following is from the instructions on my review of the game:

"Go to your Steam Library and right-click on the game. Click on the following:

Properties
Local Files
Browse Local Files

Find the file "Config.exe". Right click on it and choose run. A pop-up window for Sacred Gold will appear. Click on "32 bit color depth". DO NOT CHANGE ANYTHING ELSE. Just click on OK and exit any other pop-up windows to return to your Steam Library. Now you will, hopefully, be able to run the game.

Extra Tip: If you ever ask Steam to verify the files for this game, it will un-check the "32 bit color depth" box and you will have to redo the above steps before loading the game again."

In spite of my saying you don't need to change anything else, others have checked more than one box in that same pop-up window to get it to work for them.

I would use this simple advice first before anything else, and only if it doesn't work would I go thru all the extra things listed in the OP's suggestions.

Windows warns me that dgVoodooCpl.exe is a Trojan Virus.

Thank you, that absolutely works! Love you man!

The most valuable guide I've found to improve the game's fps. Went from about 10 fps all zoomed out in Braverock Castle to over almost 60 fps. One of the main reasons for the big increase is probably that I'm running on a laptop and the game wouldn't normally let me run it on the dedicated GPU and would always run on the integrated chip instead, no matter what I set it to in the Nvidia Control Panel.
