When I signed on to help with community stuff I never expected the release to take this long, nor did the other devs so trust me when I say we're all rather frustrated with the delays and can only guess at how annoying it must be for those who don't have access at all.
As for release, the guys who put their hands up to make this (I'm not part of that group) had a vision for what they wanted to see at release / open beta and are sticking with those goals. Agree with it or not, that's what the plan is currently.
2023 is most likely at this point.
I was a frequent Tribes player, and I don't think it's a typo... nothing new for MIdair CE (Midair 2) as of January 2023, and it's still in closed beta. At this pace, I could absolutely see this game taking another year before coming out of beta.
It's not hard to get in if you want to play - join the discord and sign up for one of the public server events & you'll get a key.
There's public games running most days at the moment for NA region, and heaps of pick up games running every day (NA region pretty much every day, and EU and AU/OCE most days).
We limit access via discord as the necessary guides for new players are located there - the new player experience is going to be very poor for someone who doesn't have access to the guides & a place to connect with the existing community.
