I love Sesbian Lex

First off, it's important to note that this is a visual novel. To me, calling it a "game" feels like a stretch - it's still images and text that you read with some music and sound effects to set the scene. There are a few choices that affect whether you can unlock the sex scenes (which are available in a separate 18+ DLC patch, despite not being graphic at all), and one major choice that affects the outcome of the story. I've played games like Life Is Strange before (LiS 1, LiS: Before The Storm and LiS: True Colors all have lesbian romance options), but in those games you do freely walk around and have small (inconsequential) choices throughout whereas with this you're just clicking through the story. I don't think visual novels are for me.

That said, this does a good job of pulling you in and it does feel worth a playthrough. I loved the synth-heavy 80s style of music throughout and the variety of tracks to go with the various scenes. The overall aesthetic of the game is cool, and I think Hong Kong is a cool setting for any game. (I loved running around Hong Kong in Sleeping Dogs!) And both characters are likeable and their romance is enough to want to see if they make it work.

As someone who doesn't play visual novels, sometimes the dialogue felt a little repetitive or awkward, or like it wasn't actually moving the plot forward in spots. But it seems people seem to really like it, so I'm guessing for this genre, this is what people are looking for. Anyone looking for explicit sex scenes through the 18+ patch might be disappointed, but I found it very tasteful, and necessary to really feel like you're getting the full story - therefore, it's a shame the patch doesn't automatically install. You have to manually drop it into the game folder, which meant I didn't bother playing this on my SteamDeck because there was no easy way to do that. You can google step by step directions - it's easy and quick to do, but not self-evident.

All in all, I like the characters, the story and the setting. If it had been a fully rendered game in 3D with voice acting and such, it would've been amazing, but I can't fault it for being exactly what it said it'd be, which is a visual novel.
