Gashur on hardest difficulty
It appears as skull difficulty to me and I've upgraded my armor twice. I am not even sure if I am able to damage it. Also it charges around and tends to glitch out a lot and teleport around while the adds fight me.

Was anyone able to defeat it on max difficulty? I haven't left the starting area yet because the game is giving me that 'you may not come back' warning....

A friend and I 100% that first area, including this elite enemy, on the hardest difficulty. We were playing cooperatively but it should be manageable solo given that coop play makes the game harder in some ways (Especially if there's a skill discrepancy between players that are playing cooperatively).

If I understand correctly, you should be able to travel back to the starting area after leaving it, but there might be some things/quests that are missable if you don't do it the first time around.

Thanks for the tips.

After clearing everything else I could find on the map, I finally got it using a level 5 armor, and for active abilities I used the sand-tornado thing and the spear attack that slows the enemy. Great combo there.

He's very parry-able although it's not effortless. The charge attack must be parried almost always since it can get you even if you're airborne. If there are adds, basically wait until you've parried the charge to try and kill 1 or 2 of them.

Finally, I still don't fully understand his shield ability, and whether it's defeated by damaging it or by waiting it out, but it does go down one way or another. Beating on him while he is slowed from the active ability and parry effects wore him down, and the sand tornado helped. Try to engage the tornado only after he charges and also if possible, when he is already slowed.

So I had a bit of trouble with this guy as well until I started parrying every charge attack. Eventually, the glowing thing surrounding his head goes away (maybe 3 parries or so?) and you can then damage him normally. I'm impressed that you could defeat him at all with the glowing thing still in place. I think the fight is designed to make you learn how to parry him. Once you get it down, he becomes much easier and the battle is definitely more fun/less frustrating.

Anyway, nice work!!

Cheers,

H

If you have something like slowing slam attack, a whip passive that reduces defence and any hard-hitting projectile, you can do it, albeit it will take more time.

Thanks - to clarify, I am not sure I was ever able to damage him through the shield. Also, I am not even sure how to take the shield down, just that it would go down at some points during the fight. Either I was doing something right or I just had to wait it out. I beat on him with the shield up anyway because I thought I might get idol charge or momentum even though I was doing no damage - but I did not check the gauges to confirm this ( ! )
