I thought you were meant to keep everything that isn't a quest reward though.
You can have some informations in that video from the dev
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nO8JK6mxJKk
Check at 5.17, there is an explanation of what is saved or not.
Tell us what was your situation with your mate.
Well, my friend and I started on our own and we created our characters. then we joined each other in Co-Op, him being the Host. we played together, and then we stopped together and rejoin Co-Op later as we had to dine etc. but when I joined his game it would tell me he was much more ahead of me, when that wasn't true.
So we progressed together for nearly 7 hours, and my progress would not allow me to save it. I thought OK, the game will save everything we did in the world and the missions we did together... but that wasn't the case.
Every time we tried to join each other, it would say that the progress would no save on my side as I was the client, even if we did everything together.
Maybe a few times he would turn in a quest and I would get the rewards, and I might be a bit far away, so maybe that even if I got the reward, the game would not credit me the quest as completed.... well this is the only thing I could think of...
So whatever system they have in place to check if the host has gone too far into the story, not letting the client save, is not working well. So that video is full of BS, and someone else has to keep correcting the main guy in the video...
So basically, we only played together. close to 7 hours, we restarted the game 3 times in that time. and for some reason he went ahead. I think at one time he closed the session, and maybe I had no chance to save it and the game didn't save the game for me or gave me the option to save when the session ended, maybe it was there when the host saved the progress and I got Royally Screwed... but something is not right on this game...
So now, after we both bought this game to only play together, we got screwed because this game single player makes no sense in 2023... its not 1984 single player games....
My friend cannot get a refund because he played more than 6 hours.. and I got it 25 % cheaper at CDKeys dot come and they don't do refunds...
Besides that, we loved the game playing together, getting powerful together and customizing our game-play... it just a stoopid Co-Op system that will play against the Client players joining a Host...
The Dev said that Co-Op won't save if the Host is nearly the end of the game bla bla bla, but we played together and I got screwed
Did you try to do a manual save before disconnecting ?
I pressed:
- World and Carackter
- Save Overwrite
Then I went back into the game to see if it had finally saved.
My save is again in the first city, am again level 2 and to say it briefly... it was once again nothing saved.
Unfortunately, it's just annoying.
Dear developers:
Can also be what is misunderstood here and you just click wrong in the queries but then I must also say:
Instead of asking how to save something or whether you want to save at all, it would be better if the game also saves as a client always and everywhere?
Most play with friends and want to experience the whole game together. I can imagine that NOBODY clicks on "I don't want to save" during a very long game session.
Do not ask if and how you want to save... but simply save!
Yes, the Manual save won't work and is greyed out.
We tried also, me joining his 7 hours saved character Co-Op game, had to buy the second gear set from the vendor for 1500 gold coins, we did some quests, tried to save on the Anvil again, and the save option was greyed out, because my toon was like very fresh, as it didn't save much. Strange it had some gold and some mats from the first 20 mins of game-play and the first Gear I had buy. which on the long hours, I upgraded to its Max Level 3, but now it was on level 1. So only a few mins of game-play got saved, but all the rest was wiped... well never saved...
Just a bad experience overall... These games are not fun as single player for us.. but they are when playing with friends together...
Similar to Outriders... another not live service with 1 year gap between content and died shortly after the second content update...
Other games will always save the progress automatically when you do a quest or get loot... or even give u a progression path and to keep what u earn in game. In our case, we were at the same progression level.. but even if one of us a bit behind, it should give us the choice to progress the one behind so he/she can catch up and then continue together forward... but well, I am also a Computer Game programmer/Coder, and I understand that what it has been done here is lazy programming and not having an Ethical care on how to help both Host and client to save progression and to catch up together... it just blocks you up... that's lazy coding in my opinion...
I do hope they fix this save problem with progression in the game, so maybe some day my friends and I can go back to play it in Co-Op. For now, it has been binned in some forgotten place inside our minds and not to ever touch again until fixes appear...
I hope they fix it sooner.
I could have that bug if my buddy hear me instead of bad reviews.
I'm sorry to hear that you have experienced these issues in co-op :/ I would be interested in learning more about the co-op session with your friend that caused the issue. If players are on an equal level of progression, it should always be possible to save progress separately. Only if there is a progress gap, the joining player will be warned before that his progress can't be saved.
To investigate your issue, the info provided in this thread is already helpful but we need more specifics on your situation. Therefore, it would be great if you could provide us with detailed answers on the following questions:
You can get save files the following way:
Thanks in advance. And it is great to hear that you enjoyed the time together before encountering the issue!
Best regards
When the host quits the game, the game asks you if you want to save character & world progress, character progress, or discard all progress made during the session.
If you really did play from the beginning with your friend, it seems like you may have skipped or misunderstood what the game was asking of you causing you to discard all your progress instead of saving character & world progress.
On a side note... Phil, I really enjoyed your Inside episodes. I would also really enjoy if you folks at Deck 13 implemented a hold to sprint or toggle on sprint option.
Toggle on sprint only works for surfing, not when running/sprinting on non-surfable ground, making it extremely inconsistent. When not surfing, sprinting is toggle on-off, which I am not a fan of.
I'll plug in here if I may?
Unfortunately, I also have these problems and I'll try to answer your questions for myself.
A: Immediately after the tutorial
A: I think not. At least not one that said it would not be saved.
A: Yes I as a client. After I noticed the first time that was not saved, I played again alone to the same point. (To the first city)
A:
First time: To the first city
Second time: On the plateau in front of the castle (Also quite early in the game)
A: What exactly do you mean?
A: Personally, I could provide the savegames of me and my colleague, yes.
I must also say though, when I set the game from DirectX 12 to 11, my savegame seemed to be back. But that could have been just a strange coincidence.
But I'm not sure about anything anymore.
