He does say that but right after that, if you inspect the totem again, he tells you he'll mark them on your map. The adventurer perk isn't something you can get early either.
I'm still on the first map, and I've already unlocked it.
Think about it, if Nyaal automatically marks chest locations for you when activate the Vintage Points, then why do we need the Adventurer perk?
I'm not saying I'm right, it just doesn't make any sense.
I hope you get the answer from devs.
It's still kinda worded poorly if there is no way (other than a perk) to mark these chests.
I've subscribed to the thread because I ran into the same issue.
"Let's mark them on the map." suggests that there is a way for you to do so... like on the spot.
The game has a tutorial for every piece of nonsense, so if it would be perk-related, the game surely had a way to let the player know it multiple times.
Even without the perk, when you're standing at the vintage point, you can roughly tell where the chest is located. Open the map, put a marker on it 'estimately', and then go do a search around that area later on.
This would work if these points would be high up.
But even when I'm not putting a marker on the map, it's sometimes hard to spot the treasure point.
So placing markers randomly doesn't help that much.
That's part of my issue. I have 2 chests on the first map I haven't gotten yet. i've run around the entire area like 10x and they're jut not there. Unless it's a bug. However, the vantage point thing is SHOWING ME there's two out there in a northern direction. I've gotten all the treasure maps and have them finished. I just want to get these last two chests before I move on. I've placed different markers here and there but always in the exact direction they seem to be. They're just not there when I look around and believe me, I've searched the bejesus out of the area so many times. Up, down, sideways, in hidey-holes, etc.
Playing with a friend, we found pretty much every chest by putting "average locations" with custom markers.
It is definitely a design choice and the goal is for you to average the position of the chest and find it by yourself. I agree that some sentences might induce the idea that it's gonna mark your map, but I think it's more a "I'm showing it to you through your HUD" than "marking the actual map".
If you just think about it one sec, the custom markers system allows you to spam markers. This is a wanted behavior.
And funny enough, the "treasure map" chests are marked on the map, which to me, is strange since they should be harder to find.
I find this far more compelling than having the chests marked. "Collectibles" that are simply a "gps marker" can be summarized to "grab this thing", there is no player involvement, no thinking needed... it's brainless gathering at its peak.
The discovery factor of finding a chest by yourself, roaming through the universe and solving basic puzzles or simply stumbling upon a secret chest is way more interesting and rewarding.
I understand that some people might like this (having a simple symbol on their map to grab something), but that's on the low end of the game design spectrum and enjoyment. All games are plaged with thousands of brainless collectibles scattered on the map, and I find that Atlas Fallen has a better balance in terms of investment / reward for the player.
You can : )
5 total (or 5 per player)
I agree with you but why have your gauntlet guy TELL YOU, specifically, "Let's mark these on your map"?
Also, the treasure maps chest are on your map but ONLY after you find all the pieces for the map, right? I believe that's how it is.
I have ZERO issues with NO hand-holding and finding stuff on my own. Zero. However, if a game is literally telling me that it's going to show them on my map then I kind of want to see the damn things on my map then. Either get rid of what he says or clarify it a little. Ya know? It's misleading at best and if it is supposed to work like he says then it's definitely broken.
English and exactly. LET US MARK SOME OF THEM ON OUR MAP. Hinting or eluding to placing markers on the map without your need to do so. It's worded funny at best. He's not suggesting I do anything honestly. It's worded more like HE'S gonna do it. LET US. As in BOTH OF US. Otherwise he should say, "YOU should mark some on your map". You know?
