I ALSO cant react or have catlike reflexes to *parry* exactly as i see the *red flashes*
I personaly study the movements and die studying the movements that come BEFORE the red flashes.
Is mixture of those 2 things for me.
hard difficulty is pretty hard...i like it even though i die a lot
I'm playing on the normal difficulty and I try to study movements... but the whole momentum based combat makes it kinda difficult to do, since I feel stressed out and need to hit enemies at all cost.
And most of the time, when I think an enemy attacks, he just got hit-stunned from the whip and nothing happens. ^^
If an enemy glows blue, they're doing an attack that cannot be parried. The Sandwhip grappling hook move (Hold attack) is really useful for not only closing the distance, but for maintaining momentum.
You can grapple hook an enemy and cancel out of the animation that propels you towards them as a way to just keep momentum going but not necessarily committing to moving towards a certain spot.
Your idol builds up as you deal damage to enemies. Don't forget to use it as I've seen a lot of YouTubers be wasteful with their Idol/heals. What I mean by this is that they're missing a considerable amount of health and have their Idol fully charged but they don't use it so any damage they do is wasted as it's not contributing to charging their Idol.
Don't forget that weapons have a launching strike technique and a slam technique. These techniques can be useful in different situations.
Furthermore, remember that nearly everything in the game can be cancelled with either an evade or a parry. Use that to your advantage.
Except for off screen indicators, those also fill up to tell you when you should be parrying.
With Dark Souls, even if there were multiple enemies, you were invulnerable during the riposte animation (and also did more damage) so it was more useful.
It's why I played on easy.
