huh? No matchmaking in 2023 in a coop game? Seems to be a trend lately... reminds me of Redfall. I am still trying to talk myself into buying this game. Wish it was on Game pass.

Exactly, and the Devs said there wouldn't be matchmaking either. It's a coop game that's meant to be played with friends.

It's a SP game with co-op options with co-op only stuff. So one can claim it's a SP game, but it's build around the idea of co-op. I call that a co-op game that can be played solo as well.

One might think "What's the difference?", well, the differences can be grand. From balance to how mechanics are setup. A SP game with co-op options will generally have SP balance. A co-op game that can be played solo will generally have co-op balance. Which often ties into how fun a mechanic can be made, it ties into grind and it ties into actual content. Co-op is generally an excuse for a shorter game, as well.

Not sure how the devs managed to make this feel like the worst of all worlds. By having no matchmaking but still tailoring for a co-op experience... Almost seems like self sabotage.

One can wonder if they didn't put time into co-op, could the game have had a much better rating?

This is the problem with most games these days that introduce co-op. They must be focused towards children. Adult life friends rely on small circle and spouse for some. Trying to get them to play something you are going to play isn't always successful. They are picky just like you are when it comes to spending their hard earned cash or time.
