Stuttery
This is driving me nuts. I can't really quite place it - it's not overtly bad, but there's something up causing this game to look choppy even despite me averaging around 100 to 120 fps (sometimes dips into the 80s). Graphical settings are maxed out. I've got it capped at 120 fps in Riva Tuner and Vsync on: tried every variation of on and off and through Nvidia control panel and in-game settings etc. Still doesn't look right. Cutscenes look incredibly smooth. Running is fine for the most part. But sand sliding is when it really starts looking choppy. It's driving me insane. It just does not look smooth despite the high FPS.

I'm using an RTX 4090 with an i9 13900. I have the latest drivers. Am I missing something here? Or is it just not quite optimized right now? Hell, could just be the OCD headspace I'm in right now.

do you have the game on an SSD? are you on Windows 11 or 10?
how much RAM do you have?
Echo Aug 10, 2023 @ 2:16am
It's stuttering if you are playing on a lower hz monitor than your FPS. I've tested that on my 4K 60Hz TV. I was getting around 75 fps but It felt weird and stuttery as you are experiencing. If I cap FPS to 60 it's smooth and feels better than uncapped frame, so if you are playing on 4K 60 Hz screen, lock it to 60 and you will feel better.

It's stuttery if u play on Vulkan, It plays much better on DX12 (at least for me on RTX3060)

Also, no. My game is locked to 60 on my 60Hz monitor and is stuttery as hell when I play on Vulkan (meaning their standard setting)

Playing on an SSD and Windows 11.

I have 32gb of RAM.

I've got it capped at 120 fps as I have a 4K 120hz monitor.

You need to play at perfectly locked framerate to get smooth gameplay in this game. Lower your settings, resolution or lock to 60FPS at 120Hz screen.

Maybe try buying the game first?

Wow. You were 100% right here. That did the trick. Looks silky smooth capped at 60 on this 120hz screen.

Why does this game specifically require this?
Skylers Meth Aug 10, 2023 @ 5:07pm
Compare the 'silky smooth' 60 fps trick results to a game that is actually silky smooth at 120, no comparison. Atlas Fallen at 60fps is merely, only just, acceptable.

THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED, otherwise what is the point of unlocking the frames or even having those settings?

This game does not support VRR, just like Dishonored 2, their proprietary game engine is flawed, but The Surge 1 and The Surge 2 both support VRR, so it's weird, their game engine iteration is actually a step backwards.

Same problem with really bad controller input lag in menus especially. It is unplayable. I just want consistent 60fps. I have an 2 TB SSD in the M2 slot, with a 3080Ti with 12 GB RAM and an I7 13700k with 5600Mhz DDR5 32 GB RAM. Doesn't matter what the setting are either. Same behavior no matter what resolution or even if I turn down all the graphic settings. Same stuttering, same input lag. FPS is all over the place in the menus jumping from 19 to 60 with Vsink on and everything in between randomly it seems. Something is effecting this. Something is competing for resources and causing interruptions. Possibly my anti-virus or something in Windows 10, or maybe some stealth crypto miner on my system I have yet to detect... IDK, but this is not right.

I often read that framerates above 60 will cause problems. My system is for nowaday standards mid (Ryzen 9 3900X and RTX 3080 10 Gig). VSynch is off because I have a GSynch Monitor.

I am playing maxed out 4k with FSR balanced. It's mostly fluid 60.

Cause problems in this game yes, just not others. They've put the option to have unlocked framerates, even though it causes issues. They haven't addressed it, by either mentioning it or fixing it, since release. Instead they;ve gone ahead and revamped the game entirely, bar addressing this oft mentioned issue. Muppets.

I have tried everything. Turning off V-sync makes it a little better, but then my GPU sounds like it wants to take off....200 fps is not necessary. The game should just work. Total fail on the devs. Refunding. Unplayable.

Yes, something is wrong. It has to be related to the refresh rate. I have a stable capped 160fps, but it feels like 60. I found a few clues when messing with settings in NVCP and in game. When i use "application controlled" Vsync in NVCP then enable it in game, my fps gets locked to 124. It SHOULD be 165 because i have a 165hz monitor. When using Vsync, it will cap your fps to MY monitors refresh rate, but this game only goes up to 120 for some reason. 100% a problem with the refresh rate that seems to have been here since release. It annoying too because i really am liking the game, but it feels like crap.

As others and myself have mentioned throughout this forum many times, Lossless Scaling frame generation works very well with fixing what the developers won't. It's available on steam and versions on high seas also work very well.
