First Impressions of Reign of Sand
I started a new game with a fresh character. My last playthrough was several month ago but it definitly seems more optimized and polished. Only the facial animations are are still weak.

The tutorial was shortend in several parts to get the player faster in the first region of the game. The cuts are well made and logical but I hadn't any problem with the original tutorial in the first place.

Combat and movement seems more fluid. The dance between enemies and closing distances seems easier and the flow breaking mid height hard landing while plattforming is gone. I think gameplay wise it got some descent treatment in these departments.

Performance is mostly good with Vulkan and my system R9 3900X and my RTX 3080 10 Gig. Here and there are still some minor hickups, which is slightly disappointing after one additional year of development.

My biggest complain is that they didn't add DLSS or XeSS, as well that the graphic options are still bare bones.

Yes, it renders your old saves inoperable. I had a 10 hour save, but i'm not fussed as i stopped playing a year ago due to the juddery appearance of camera movements even at high framerates. That is still there even with this patch btw. Muppets.

The devs warned about it beforehand - your save is reverted to the moment when you entered your last map.

I play mostly solo and I think it's quite good. It's controversial some points (optimization, story, pacing). You can check the first 2 hours if it's your cup of tea. I personally think it's one of the best action adventures since Castlevania Lords of Shadow and Darksiders. At launch the english localisation was a lot worse then the german one. But with the Reign of Sand update they rerecorded many characters.

So based on your feedback, do you recommend the game after the update? (In my case, it would be my first time playing it). You mentioned Castlevania Lords of Shadow and Darksiders, these are games that I played and loved both (especially DK, I finished all 3).

Along side the the lack of XESS / DLSS, I find that they didn't update the FSR implementation to FSR 3.1 despite the engine already using FSR2.2 to be a bit strange. I wish they would expose more of the FSR variables to the end user as well, I can run this game pretty smooth at 1800p so just bringing that internal res up to 4k with FSR 3.1 would probably look decent.

Quick edit: I am not upset or ungrateful for the update, I have been putting of getting into it for some reason I don't know, so the continued support is appreciated, and Deck13 make some fun games.

As I said, for me they made this already good game even better. But it's quite unique game between all the battle royals, gatchas and soulslikes out there. Either you like it during the first two hours or you give it back. It's really hard to recommend to unkown gamers with unkown playstyles and preferences.

I am enjoying it and since I had barely started the game when I originally got bored, I had no issue starting over, and, I actually like the changes so far gameplay wise, I'll give the rest a fair shot in the rotation now, though.

Well, then I'll give these 2 hours a try and decide if the game is my thing. Thanks.

Ben Starr as the protag male VA is all I needed to go back to this game. So far I am enjoying it a lot more.
