I wouldn’t rate this on the same level as darksiders, it doesn’t really have puzzles and the world building / story is pretty dire. But the combat is excellent, the movement system is fantastic and the open world & collectathon is actually fun. Plus it looks beautiful.
It’s a solid video game that is just a lot of fun and different from the typical AAA formula.
Exploration and combat are bread and butter of Atlas Fallen. A lot of verticality and build combinations.
Thanks guys!
Combat encounters are mostly focused and designed around fighting and maneuvering through big enemies that have relatively big health pool with small mobs around those. Combat system is fast paced and involves a lot of movement though.
World design stands out with how vertical it is basically areas are not big but they have been designed with verticality in mind.
Side quest design sucks major ass though like 90% of those are go there->kill a wraith/find a plant or something->go back and thats it insanely boring, generic and basic not worth doing in my opinion.
They are releasing major patch very soon that apparently overhauls some parts of progression system and more plus adds new region.
As for Darksiders comparison then this game is definetly a lot closer to Darksiders 2 than to first game or Genesis for example this game is also not soulslike at all. DS games had a lot of puzzle sections while this game has none.
Im a big fan of fast paced melee combat systems and I love Darksiders series,In my opinion this game is solid fun id say go for it.
That a plus for me. Darksiders 2 is my favorite, have on PC and Xbox.
Atlas Fallen has finally been released on Game Pass, and I suggest anyone on the fence to try it there first. The game runs well on Series X.
The combat is... strange. I’m not sure if I like it; it’s different and similar to DARKSIDERS.
You get three weapons, included a gauntlet similar to the one you find in the first DARKSIDERS. The camera movement during fights is a bit frustrating. The game loves to throw flying monsters at you, so you end up fighting more in the air than in the sand.
The combat isn’t exactly difficult, but the monsters have a lot of health. The runes and powers are lame, the inventory is ugly and terrible to navigate. It’s a classic case of having a lot of junk in the inventory but only a few runes actually being good.
I like the exploration; the map can be confusing in the beginning, but it’s fun to explore. I arrived at the sunken city shortly after giving food to a prisoner (I find this kind of mission funny and don't mind doing it, no matter how silly it look). I like the NPCs too! I think it’s cool that they react to your actions at times; they’re not just puppets handing out quests.
I’m playing with a female character and I enjoy her voice. I find it charming.
The funny thing is, I started the game without the update installed (I didn't know any better), and I thought the tutorial at the beginning was pretty mediocre... until I realized that Reing of Sand wasn’t installed! Once I installed it, the tutorial changed drastically for much better progression and writing!
I’m a bit disappointed with the combat, I might switch to Easy mode just to finish the game.
I will agree i wasn't much of a fan of darksiders, just didn't seem to have much content, and builds were very static.
Atlas Fallen on the other hand has lots of customization, many ways of going about fighting, heavy and slow, fast and agile, standard brawler, aerial dominance, co op ads in being a support build with aoe heals and buffs. Bonuses for focusing on specific styles. There's 5 styles, damage, tricks, Momentum, survivability, and healing, all with their own bonuses.
the open world is fun, plenty of resources to collect for upgrades and extra cash, lost of story and lore laying around. The devs really put in some effort into hiding stuff, so make sure you check every corner.
It's definitely not a "discount monster hunter/standard arpg" the combat is very solid and unique, more souls like if you're playing on the harder difficulties. Thats why i mentioned they're probably playing on easy mode, because even on hard mode you're dead in a few hits, and those few hits can come in a few seconds. Parry is much needed, or good dodge placement, i haven't noticed i frames for dodging so it requires you to position yourself outside the attack for the dodge to be useful, Parry is the better and more rewarding route to go as you start freezing enemies on parry, with a few in a row on large monsters to freeze them for a moment giving you much needed time to do damage or handle smaller mobs.
I started my game on hard mode, looking forward to ng+ on the nightmare difficulty
Yea darksiders was meant to be a if zelda and dmc had a baby basically, thats what people do not get it was not mean to be more if people do not like puzzles they should not have invested in it lol, the level design is unmatched in darksiders 2 btw.
Yes, it is unmatched in it's confusing layouts and annoyances.
