This was an absolutely wonderful game, with an amazing story. I have played so many JRPG's and this one feels special. Do yourself a favor and play it!

Overall, this game was very disappointing.

Story:
There are some interesting characters, but everything feels a bit dis-jointed. The ending, in particular, leaves much to be desired. There are some cool story bits here and there, but the over-arching story omits too many details and conclusion. I'm not sure if they were planning on DLC or a sequel to explain the rest, but it felt incomplete.

Gameplay:
Overall, the gameplay has a lot of unique systems, but it was over-complicated for the sake of complexity. There were just too many different systems. Foot battles and Sky Armor battles, overdrive system, crystals, leveling up weapons and armor, too many types of crystals, unique monsters, class emblems, etc. However, much of it was wasted. The leveling and stat system was not explained very well, and you would occassionally get "hidden" stats when selecting an ability, but there was no real explanation of when you were going to get stat points. The crystal system was cumbersome to use (the UI for crystals and gear is just terrible). The class emblems were mostly wasted. Many of the optional areas could not be explored until you hit certain requirements in the last dungeon, so you'll complete the game before you can explore much of the game, unless you back out of the final dungeon at the last minute and then go back to explore.

Combat:
The overdrive system was fun and unique, but the Sky Armor combat was not thought out very well, and it was mostly a frustrating experience. I thought the class emblems would add a lot of variety and combinations to the battles, but they don't have much impact. Swapping characters in battle is fun, but doesn't add much to the game.

Overall thoughts:
I applaud the game designer for implementing so many ambitious systems, and for an indie title, I had high hopes. However, maybe he was biting off more than he could chew. Also, ignore my game time. I often have to afk from the game, or leave it running overnight, so the 240 hours of playtime is totally inaccurate (I didn't want to give the impression that I didn't like the game but continued to play for such an extended period of time).

I played this game, sea of stars, and star ocean 2nd story r this year, and all of them are amazing, but I think this one just slightly edges it out. I really love the atmosphere and the war drama, and I also like how the music is really good once I listed to it enough times.

A good but shockingly dark rpg. Don't let it's art style fool you

A fun JRPG for fans of 16-bit turn based games. Combat is pretty good, dialog is silly at times without being overdone, and so far the plot is interesting. If you're looking for something similar to the pre-FFVII era, definitely give this a try!
