Vagrant Story reference?
In Nhysa... Underground rooms, filled with blue lights, phantoms roaming around, location design being small interconnected rooms, and a guy referencing to these said rooms as "wine cellars".

I wonder.

Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, Vagrant Story, Suikoden, basically all of the best ps1 era jrpgs somewhere in there, and also Berserk...anyone noticed any more obscure references or mechanical inspirations?

I'm not sure it's an intended reference or not, but many characters' portraits remind me of Final Fantasy Tactics—especially General Godfrey, from the head shape, angle, armor and color palette. Specifically, he looks like a combination of the two dukes, Gerrith Barrington and Druksmald Goltanna.

Oh, and Robb looks and even somewhat acts a lot like Argath.

the final bosses are references to sephiroth from ff7 and kefka from ff6
I read Nhysa as a giant reference to Fullmetal Alchemist, wherethe capital city of Amestris has a giant transmutation circle built around and beneath it, which is eventually triggered to sacrifice the whole population and achieve functional godhood. Especially considering the other connection with Glenn and seeing a gate in a white nothingness is also very clearly inspired by FMA.

Granted the twist here is that Nhysa was doing it benevolently. They triggered the circle and sacrificed the city to create a gate to the Vaen so someone could confront them eventually.

Robb is Aldis from FFT. He's just as disagreable.

I would say the game is heavily inspired by FFXII and FF Tactics. The art (faces, font etc.) is very reminiscent of FFT and the map design and politics, setting, narrative style and game systems are very FFXII.

Holerö is also a specific reference to an old german Nintendo comic. Cross Code apparently did it, too.
