Explain how Potency works
Hey everybody,
Just wondering if anyone can explain how to calculate what "a potency of 0.2" means... I havent seen this discussed anywhere, in any guides, or in any other forums, and I would really like to understand how to calculate what the 0.X potency is.

EXAMPLE;

For Victor's "Shielding Mazurka" skill, it reads;

"Grants HP absorb shield. Absorbs damage with a potency of 0.2 for 2 turn(s) (all)."

And also from Victor's "Healing Hymn" skill, it reaads;

"Grants HP regen with a potency of 0.2% for 5 turn(s) (all)." 0.2% of what? And if this one is a percentage, is the 0.2 potency calculated in Shielding Mazurka a flat 0.2? Or is it a typo and should there be a % there as well???

lol so lost on this...

I don't have to official answer but the way I understood it, 'potency' is the effectiveness of the related stat. For example, a physical attack with a potency of 1.0 uses 100% of the user's attack stat. And a healing skill with a potency of 0.4 uses 40% of the user's mind stat. Of course the actual outcome also depends on the target's stats like defense and max HP.

See that would make sense, except for this part;

So...? What is it? A flat 0.2? Or a typo?

No? 0.2 literally means 20%.
The potency (in this case 0.2) isn't a percentage or a flat number, it's a multiplier. A potency of 0.2 means the 'power' of the skill is equal to 0.2 x the related stat. So 0.2 is the same as 20%, and 1.8 for example is the same as 180%.

So, let's say that Victor has a Mind stat of 150. In that case his Shielding Mazurka protects all allies with a power of 0.2 x 150 = 30. But once the skill is improved to lvl 2, it has a potency of 0.3 so it protects all allies with a power of 0.3 x 150 = 45.

Potency is just a relative number to show you how strong a certain skill is compared to other skills. Let's assume that a normal attack has a potency of 1.0, then a physical skill with a potency of 2.0 is twice as strong as a normal attack. And Shielding Mazurka (potency 0.2) protects the same amount of HP that is recovered every turn by Healing Hymn (also potency 0.2).
