How much does the lead character in Dragon Quest talk? Zero. And that's THE quintessential JRPG. How much voice acting is there in Chained Echos anyway? Oh yeah, zero. And FF14 is a way bigger game.
Arguably the best JRPG this year was Xenobalde Chronicles 3 & that too is extremely MMO like in gameplay.
You don't have to like it, but I'd say you don't really like JRPGs. Anyway my point is that FF14 has an extremely good story that is certainly beyond that of Chained Echoes.
In terms of scope of the story no argument there FF14 is larger which is no surprise there we are talking about a studio that was planning to write a story that spans over 4 expansions whereas the Chained Echoes dev was planning on writing a story for one game. In terms of the actual writing though, plot hooks, twist, character interaction and character motivation it's hard for me to pick one that's objectively better though i would give a slight edge too Chained Echoes for 2 reasons. FF14 is a slow burn especially at the start I wasn't even interested enough that i was consistently reading all the quest text until i got into Heavensward and it has a bunch of pointless filer content on top of that. And reason number 2 which honestly i don't consider to be that bad because every MMO does this your character the dude you control the whole game doesn't contribute alot too the story.
You tell me :^). https://i.imgur.com/TslXvOI.png. Warrior Masterrace could solo a lot of content where other jobs couldn't. The high-end content "raids" are only hard because you have to coordinate with 8+ other people, it's not like league or Elden Ring or something where you can carry solo. So everyone has to pull their own weight in the group. I don't like to play with so much people (max 4) but i hate the tab targeting combat system. I am more of an arpg/action guy or full strategy games (like turn based, RTS).
As I said, you can't compare FF14 to JRPGs. IMO MMOs should focus on social things (The newer MMOs actually skip being social lol).
Yes, I would love this, the remastered was a total disaster :D.

Same! All our efforts to mod that terrible port resulted in barely a difference. Chained Echoes is absolutely gorgeous.
But yeah, what's the point of this post? And why is the OP comparing the game to Chrono Trigger in specific?
Chrono Trigger's claim to fame, what it should really be honored for, is that it popularized New Game+ and multiple endings. And I mean a lot of endings. Not like one or two. At the time, most console games had only one ending (unless you count the game over screen from dying), MAYBE two or three every once in a blue moon from basically one choice in the entire game. And it should be remembered and respected for that. But it's not this sparkling example of perfection some people let nostalgia turn it into. It was an above-average JRPG that was a prominent major example of some (awesome, IMO) game mechanics that were, at the time, very uncommon.
Care to explain?
