Unless the ability would take away from the OD bar, it adds to it. The exception is using an item, which is neutral, defending which lowers it, and there are five items in the game that count as using an ability of the type in the top left corner.
Red = Attack
Yellow = Magic
Orange = Debuff
Blue = Buff
Purple = Utility
I was hoping that I was missing something more along the lines of a thematic component instead of a roulette system, but knowing that makes it easier to understand nonetheless.
Sadly, this games throws a bunch of mechnics all of a sudden and doesnt have a Help-Page.
In the end, a lot of information will be lost.
