"Animal Lover" and "Herbivore" Achievements / Trophies

Hello!

Just finished the game and wow, it was fantastic and a real step up from the first chapter!

I'm playing on PS5, but since there's no active PlayStation forum so I figured I'd ask here since it's probably the same situation with Steam Achievements.

These questions were both issues on my Survivor playthrough. I haven't yet tried re-playing it on the easiest difficulty.

1. I finished on survival last night and didn't kill (or even fight in any way) any of the living animals in the game. The "Animal Lover" trophy didn't pop. I DID get attacked by them a few times and ran away, and I DID fire my revolver in the air a few times to scare them off when they were blocking the path, but I never did any damage to any of them. Does the Animal Lover trophy require not even getting attacked? It's frustrating to go the whole game running away from any animal attacks and then not get the trophy.

2. The "Herbivore" trophy seems unachievable at the moment. First (a known bug) is that I can't tell how many I've already collected, but secondly I've been all over the maps where herbs might appear and there are no more marker circles anywhere. Do herbs respawn? Or have I just missed some? Are there exactly 20 of them available?

Regarding the herbivore trophy, the herbs do not respawn, there are more than 20 in the game, I don't know exactly if their number matters depending on the difficulty. I played on the lowest difficulty and found more than 20.

Regarding animal lover, I did exactly like you and didn't get the trophy. So, I will tell you how I managed to get the achievement. I started a new game, lowest difficulty and obviously I didn't kill any living animal, I did not fire a single shot, not even in the air to scare the animals. Also, I only killed 2-3 ghost animals because otherwise I couldn't move on. I collected the rest of the fragments without killing the ghost animals, it shouldn't be a problem on low difficulty. The trophy description says"Complete the game without killing any animal(except for Brume animals). Well, that's how I did it the first time, I did not kill any living animal, but I killed almost all the ghost animals and the trophy didn't appear.

Thanks for the reply! Did all the herbs appear on the map as white circles or did you have to look more manually? My map has no circles left and I've wandered everywhere but my game is on survival.

How did you only kill 2-3 ghost animals? Don't the ghost animals just keep chasing you until you shoot them? Or do they disappear once you leave the area?

Also did you get attacked by any living animal when you got the trophy? I'm wondering if I didn't get it because some attacked me so the game might have registered a "fight" with one.

Honestly, I didn't look for white circles, I just searched everywhere.
The ghost animals disappear after you leave the area, of course you have to pick up the fragments.
Yes, i was attacked by live animals,but I simply ignored them. Like I said all of this was on the lowest difficulty. Live animals attack you on survival difficult, but on lower difficult they simply ignores you.

Thanks for this idea; I can confirm that this method worked for me on Animal Lover. Like others, on my second completionist run I took very much care never to shoot at any live animals and only killed the Brume ones, but it still didn't give me the achivement. But this morning I did basically a "speed run" on the Easy difficulty, and never used a gun once the entire game. There were a couple times in the Underground Lab that the game forced me to kill a wolf (and I used the Hatchet just to be safe), but any time I encountered even Brume animals outside in the wild, the animal would either just disappear after hitting me once or twice or I'd just run away. That method got me the achievement.

Now I just need to figure out how to get Herbivore. That definitely seems to require 20 herbs on a single playthrough, but I just can't seem to find that many. I have to be at least VERY close to 20 on my completionist file, unless the achievement is just bugged.

Hi! Thanks a lot for your solution. I had to do a second playthrough for the animal lover achievement. I followed your strategy and it worked like a charm. I am on Xbox btw if that helps anybody. Great game as the first one.

I didn't kill any uncontaminated animals , but I didn't get the achievement “Animal Lover”.
Maybe this is a bug.
I'm honestly sick of doing it all over again.

I tried at the lowest difficulty level and was able to obtain it.
I defeated two wolves that appeared in the laboratory.
These are the only two that need to be defeated.

Huh, ... I just avoided all of the 'live' animals I encountered in my first playthru. If they were around a location I needed to visit, I just waited a little while at a nearby campfire until they left. (the bear snooping around the campsite in the first area will eventually wander off, the same with the wolf digging in the trash pile). I also killed all 'Brume' phantoms I encountered; wolf, bear, moose. and still got the award.

I don't think it is bugged, simply put, you just have to be aware of your surroundings and avoid the 'live' animals. Don't get too close and don't trigger an attack.

Honestly, its a bit sad, i just finished the game and came to look why the achievement "Animal Lover" didn't pop... it's just like the first game, i didn't drink any alcohol, but drank water and it count as it if were alcohol. The game still great for me, but as a guy who likes to do 100% of the games, its a little frustrating
