What's the current meta?
Haven't played since early access season 3 or something, what's the current meta? I remember fighters and shooters being hot ♥♥♥♥ back in the day, is that still the case?

1. Shooter tier 5 (Punisher) is straight up busted. I've seen tons of PVP teams with like 10 punishers that shred my mediocre team. Mages got a nerf bc of the unit tier balance and the fact that the fireball mutation now moved to a random event instead of mutation shrines. However they are still not bad to use, and are still viable as damage dealers. Throwers are still terrible on its own, splash damage isn't worth it when Mages + splash thunderbolt could do the trick.

2. I think the near-combat units, fencers / fighers / tricksters seem balanced, I've seen teams in equal ratio using these close combat units, and I've run all of them at least once after the 1.0 release. Tanks are also good, and the tier 5 tank unit is crazy good with hordes of enemies.

3. Cultists and Eggheads are still "good in PVE but questionable in PVP"

In conclusion, shooters (specifically tier 5 weapon Punisher) is the meta, and near combat units (fencers / fighers / tricksters / tanks) are switchable. Granted, I'm only in the amateur league so it might be different in higher leagues.

Shooters will, most probably, be nerfed, with the next update for Season 2.

throwers aren't terrible. i mean you wouldn't want to just use throwers alone, but when combined with tricksters they can be very good at getting to the enemies back line. the problem this season is that the t5 shooter's ability is too strong. what do you mean by splash thunderbolt? do you mean chain lightning? the splash damage mutation only works on physical attacks.

i am in veteran with a thrower/trickster build and as of now i am in 4th place. the thing about my build is that i have silence and cleanse for both classes, so if my opponent doesn't have cleanse, their t5 shooter's are just sitting ducks for 2-3 seconds. that's more than enough time for me to do some damage with human projectile. some of the top builds don't even have high levels of magic resistance because they are trying to counter shooters, not magic damage. my build was in first for a bit and then second. once it got to third another player jumped to second but they didn't fight my build to get there. so only two people this season have beat my thrower team in veteran. if i was in grandmaster i would be much lower because a lot of those builds have cleanse. if you get lucky and get cleanse, try getting silence. it narrows down the range of builds that can advance past your team.

Thanks for the detailed tips, I'll try using that combo later.
