The videos by Vortac Vids aided me greatly when I was first getting started with the game. He has posted multiple videos (20 at the time of this writing) covering everything from the getting started guide (referenced by Lothmore above) to basic programming, automation, fuel efficiency, buddy bots, defenses and more.
As Lothmore recommended, if you find yourself in need of programming help, gaming tips and tricks, or if you just want to watch a great video series, give Vortac Vids a looking over.

Yeah, vortac is a great guy at mechanica!
Hold down the right mouse button to pick up placed objects such as furniture, doors, storage bins, and miners.
The robots are relatively slow and easy to outrun in a pinch. You can always stand on a two crates and swing the bat until they are all dead but a laser sword defense works well for me.
1 Laser trip wire and 3+ lasers. Add two Wait statements (right click in the programming window to access more commands) with 1 and 2 second delays so they trigger in sequence. This setup just kills them in an easy farm. I typically add a button to set off the sequence manually if for some reason the trip wire fails to activate (mostly due to piled up robot bodies).
