Trying to "Save/Load Game" cheese it... The shame!!
Chapter III was a bit rough on first try (not use to being limited to only 2 weapon slots).. But one must learn and adapt to overcome (= satisfaction whenever you do it)..
I would suggest doing the "boring" task of "grinding" the sector of space that has unmanned Venators untill around 30.0 wanted bounty level (50 or 60'ish fights with Drone enemies).. By then you will have earned enough Coin/Scrap to upgrade your ship's subsystems, get better weapons and get/find crew to move to the next sector area of space...
Then crippling and/or killing the destroyer class Venators in the next sector of space will be rather 'easier' to do (if you target the right subsystem room(s) with your opening shots...
Like this is SS is my Human "hard" playthrough where i've only been in the 2nd sector area for 4 or so turns(days).. I had already found/bought 2 pairs of Purple Rapid Fire EMP blaster cannons and Taertikon plasma cannons (love these hard hitting cannons) back in the 1st starting sector...

yupp thats it .. just copy the one with latest time stamp and save in another folder... then copy paste in again if you wanna start from where you copy'd it ..
When a ship lacks Teleporters & Stealth, target the Armory subsystem

Your opening salvo will cripple their ability to return fire.. Which if the AI is dumb enough to use the "Battle Run" ability which zeros both your and theirs maneuverability for 10 seconds, you will able to destory them with ease..

And if a enemy ship has a Stealth system and uses the Double shield ability, use the Engineer Shield Block ability to counter it.. Target either the Armory or target the Stealth System then Armory

If a enemy has Rakkhi on board and has a Teleporter, I will target it first then the armory.. Which often times will get them to put 2 "targets" in that room to repair it.. My drones can then hit them and the room to helping keep it offline while I fire my weapons to knock the weapon system out...
For Offensive Drone, I like the Laser over Combat (their laser attack has beam length of 2), as they tend to deal more System/Crew damage, and can hit 1 or 3 rooms/crew with a single strike..

One just needs to find/use a weapon build that works well together and with a playstyle..
I like to use 2 fast firing with 2 slower hard hitting weapons.. And can use the fast firing EMPs to keep key systems offline while the slower heavy hitting ones destroy key systems while wreaking the hull, all while the drones are hitting random crew, systems and sometimes starting fires..
In another playthrough I used 2 AoE weapons with 2 Hard hitting weapons..
Your crew abilities are also key to use at important moments..
As in when you find yourself either not being able to hit a target or break through their shields..
Use the Shield Block ability to counter the enemy's Shield Overload/Shield Boost
Use the Bullseye ability to counter the enemy Maneuvering/Acceleration
