I am pretty sure you will like it buddy considering the games you mention enjoying.
Is it better than LnL Tactical?
Thats a really personal one to be honest, doubt you could get a consensus opinion.
LnL is more Squad Leader, is it better, really depends what you wan't.
In saying all this i don't own the Boardgame of this but i do own LnL Tactical Boardgame also so i have a bit of a soft spot for LnL. Think its the more personal Squad level stories and struggles that the game can create as the scenarios play out.
I will pick up Combat Commander at some point, whats held me off is Solo play not as good(apparently) as LnL or CoH with the Single Player expansion systems ect.
Hey also Labyrinth War on Terror is up on Steam now in EA, that another cracking boardgame also so high hopes for this Digital Version.
All Coin games should be Digital in my perfect world xD
Is this Combat Commander I've seen mentioned here also undergoing a digital conversion?
You know...I've had Conflict of Heroes since it came out and never really played it. Is this game similar to CoH?
Its similar to Conflict of Heroes scale wise ect, Squad level tactical but its all card driven so you build a hand of cards as you play to dictate how you can move and act.
It is more infantry based combat than tanks ect iirc but it is a beautiful looking game with many many expansions and theatres but from what i remember has the real chaos of battle and creates great stories as you play through.
Conflict of Heroes is great also yes, the digital version is maybe a little on the janky side but the cardboard version is just a beautiful thing to behold, with the single player expansion and the mission generator expansion you can play it for years, i have man :)
The cardboard version of CoH has a single-player mode? I never knew that.
The way you describe Combat Commander, being card-driven sound like Kards

Its like LnL Tactical but more infantry, Hexes and Counters but instead of dice you use cards to determine how/if you can move/fire/act.
If you don't have an assault card in your hand ect, no assault ect.
Its a really cool system, check out some videos on youtube, its right up there just like i said doesn't do Solo play well because you always see your opponents Cards so you know what he may be able to do or not do ect.
Yes CoH has had a Solo and Battle Generator Expansion for a couple of years now, pair them with Awakening the Bear and you have literally endless battles with the AI have a Deck of Cards it pulls from to determine its actions, so it plays and reacts based on where your units are and his are and what the objective is with what card it has pulled so it always plays differently even if you do the same thing ect.
Its truly great to play, i have lost endless hours to it since i picked it up a couple of years back.
Academy games are US based and when the expansions were released i contacted Academy to get a price for Awakening the Bear+Solo+Battle Generator and have them send ship it to the UK.
Because i bought all 3 they covered the shipping. Awesome service, highly recommend :)

LnL have a Firefight generator expansion and Solo Expansion though i cannot vouche for how good they are i only own Heroes Of Normandy Cardboard at present.
On my list of wants though, like Combat Commander and ALL the COIN games xD

But I found a way in and now even the prices default to Japanese Yen (I'm in Japan). But I am confused by the naming. The only game offered is "CoH: Storms of Steel 3rd Edition - Asia". Do the Solo+Battle Generator expansions work with that? Is Storms of Steel a different game than Awakening the Bear? Their website and naming conventions is very confusing.
Probably even more confusing lol.
They are both separate games but still both the same game and system, SoS is set in different part of Russia centred around Massive Tank Battles around Kursk.
Awakening the Bear is Operation Barbarossa.
Think AtB as part 1 and SoS part 2, some parts/rules are interchangeable if you own both iirc, may be some extra scenarios if you own both(not sure)
Now does the 2 expansions Solo and Generator work with SoS?
In all honesty i am not sure.
Generator is specific to AtB i think, i may be wrong though i do not own SoS to test.
Solo i believe will work with SoS, though i do not own SoS to test.
Advice would be to email Academy Games and ask.
Thanks. I contacted them and waiting for an answer.
ha. I didn't know that existed. Thanks!
You might want to make the Digital version of CoH you just found hanging out in you library look at little more like the boardgame which is gorgeous instead of the Digital which looks a bit muddy by comparison :)
And yes do change to chits and boargame maps in the options the 3d models and 3d maps are just god awful.
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4443928
Makes the game look identical to the Boardgame and adds an extra layer of clarity to the Flat Boards and improves on the unit pictures on the counters/chits.
Makes it look like this game basically instead of the 3D monstrosity maps/boards and 3D Tanks/Squads ect which were poorly done and hard to see if they were in a forest ect.
Only thing thats still gimpy is the camera which is either direct from above which is best imho or some semi isometric view with a tilt that auto changes you zoom in and out.
