looks like you cant use 2 games and play using your keyboard+mouse via some multiplayer option, so yeah.. refunded both copies :/
I had to start the game in steams big picture mode (otherwise my controller wasn´t recognized) and then when I was in the game i tabbed to steam, invited him to remote play, activated in steam his keyboard and mouse option (the icons beside his name when connected in the window) and then you can both play.
If you still control the same character you need to open the ingame option and select "add another player to keyboard" and then it worked for us.
The good news is you only need one copy of the game then. My partner and I played this remote together. It was not bad at all, not ideal, but do-able and we had fun. Me using controller, him using kb+m (controller recommended though)
