Before you boot a save file, invite your partner to remote play. That's the only way to activate co-op. If two unique input devices aren't detected before you boot a save file, the game won't let your Yarnies (Yarnys?) split up.
Once you invite your friend, they join, and you boot the save file, just hit pause menu and it'll say "Add second player/controller" or something like that. Just hit that option and you're good. It's that easy!
From there, you might need to do just a bit of tweaking to get the controls right (have your partner use controller, use the remote play overview to disable their ability to use k+m, then use Unravel 2's pause menu to designate the controller to them and k+m to yourself and you should be golden). If you don't do the tweaking, for whatever reason player 2's jumps will make player 1 jump. Just a small thing to fix before you start playing.
Have fun! I hope you and your friend have a great time.
