First it crashed during the first note of music, and Origin shut down, too.
Then I was unable to launch the game at all until I manually started Origin again, clicked on the game and tried to run it from the desktop shortcut. Only then, and not in any other way I got a popup telling me there was no save data for the game in the cloud (no ♥♥♥♥, Sherlock).
First I tried the cloud alternative, which crashed the game even earlier with the screen flickering to black and back and I had to do the same long procedure to get the alternative to choose to upload local save files.
Now it crashes like it did the first time, only this time I don't seem to be able to find any way to troubleshoot the damned thing.
♥♥♥♥ EA, ♥♥♥♥ Origin and ♥♥♥♥ Denuvo or whatever DRM(s) they're using!
Edit: Seeing that some have been experiencing crashes when using their VPN I turned mine off, and now I get three seconds of the first note of music before it crashes, and the music itself has stutters. First a short one less then a second in, then a nearly ten seconds long stutter before the note continues for a second before it all crashes back to the desktop.
The only real difference from before is that Origin seems to stay without crashing.
I guess the problem is, that I allready owned the game on Origin, de-installed it and installed afterwards the steam-versions (don't ask, why I bought the steam-version, when I allready have the origin-version).
However, Unravel Two wirks fine, and I owned it on origin before, too!.
(Sry for my bad english)
Edit:
I found the solution that worked for me:
For most, it has been a problem with the K-Lite Codec Pack.
Try updating or uninstalling.the Codec Pack
I had the same issue with Unravel starting up ok but being stuck at the loading screen indefinitely (black screen, pulsing white dot).
I've been at it trying to find a solution for 3 days now. And I FOUND A SOLUTION working for me:
I installed the latest Windows Media Feature Pack (x64_1903_V1) of May 2019. Rebooted my PC and was able to immediately play Unravel on Steam via Origin. You can download media pack here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/mediafeaturepack
Steps I've tried before this (which didn't work) but may be worth giving a try:
- Updating all hardware drivers
- Updated Windows
- Installing newest Radeon Software Adrenalin driver 20.5.1
- Back-installing Radeon Software Adrenalin driver to version 20.4.2. (currently active)
- Uninstalling / installing newest version of Origin
- Uninstalling / installing Unravel (via Steam)
- Cleaned Origin Cache
- Starting Origin as well as Unravel.exe in compatibility mode (not active, didn't make a difference)
- Starting Origin as well as Unravel.exe as administrator (still active)
- Updated + repaired the game (didn't make a difference)
- Installing K-Lite Codec Pack (Uninstalled later, Unravel still running with above mentioned working solution)
- Installed newest Java software
- Tried a clean boot (no difference)
- Updated/installed newest Visual C++ Redistributable Packages
I hope this helps people fixing and playing Unravel.
For 2 more seconds than on my main pc before Denuvo crapped itself and Origin had to go change its diapers and took the game with it.
