Confirmed: AVX is required to play NBA 2K21

The 2K Knowledge Base article was updated in the last 24 hours to include the AVX instruction set as a requirement for your processor.

NOTE: In order to play NBA 2K21 on PC, you need a processor capable of supporting SSE 4.2 and AVX.

• If the game doesn't boot up at all (or closes after a few seconds of boot), that is a symptom of a lack of SSE 4.2.
  
• If you are not able to actually load into a game of basketball, that is a symptom of a lack of AVX.

There are websites and System Information software where you can check whether your processor has SSE and AVX. Please check those if you are experiencing these issues to help you diagnose the issue.

Uh huh. So are 2k gonna refund me after 5 months of no communication and wasted time? Steam certainly isn't, since I spent a little over 5 hours ingame trying to diagnose the issue.

It's a rhetorical question, because of course they aren't, but still. It's almost impressive that it took them this long to diagnose this big of an issue in a veritable reskin of 2k20.

My cpu supports both but the game still will not launch/open whatsoever. I've reinstalled it, checked game files, updated my drivers, and even ran it as administrator and nothing works. Everything seems fine but it will not work any ideas?

I have sse4.2 on my processor, but it will flash back at the beginning of the game

My computer can plays 2k21 very smoothly few days ago, but I found the game will quit automatically after few seconds of boot today. I got i5 6500 and should be okay with the requirement as i can play 2k21 few days ago. Any ideas?

That said, there was a new update yesterday. Has that fully downloaded?

If it's not showing the version number in the Properties, the only way to be absolutely sure is to reinstall the game.

I cannot load in game. Can literally create a myPlayer and do building and cutscenes, but unable to get in actually game. Same when I load in to quick play with any teams. It's the biggest cuck tbh. Worst gaming experience in a while and I'm assuming its this because I don't have SSE 4.2 on my processor and these symptoms are happening to me. Would like to know this requirement before the game so I don't have to try and get a refund. I have tried numerous uninstalls, driver updates and other forum posts, but this is likely the reason.

What is your processor and when did you get the game?

My processor is old, it is Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G4560 @ 3.50GHz. It does support SSE4.2 but NOT AVX or AVX2. I got the game about two weeks ago.

You're right, you can't get into a game because your processor doesn't have AVX. This was only confirmed recently and while the main store page does currently say it's needed, I don't know exactly when it was updated.
