Not all High Sierra Macs have the problem; I can run it OK on my 2013 13" Macbook Pro (with a sucky Intel GPU), although it does crash, stutter, and freeze pretty often. But it doesn't do the black screen thing by default. However, it will do the black screen if I've been playing on an external HDMI monitor with a setting that my internal display doesn't support. For instance, the internal screen supports 1280x800, but the HDMI display supports 1280x720 (720p). If I set the game to use 1280x720, quit the game, and then switch to the internal display, it will do the black screen thing. So, long story short, maybe you all could play with the display resolution you're running at and perhaps you could get enough UI to work that you could switch it into something that works better? Just a thought. Good luck.

Also, I wouldn't hold your breath for a fix on this one; the game is so old that I'm sure none of the developers feels like "wasting their time" debugging this; what would be the payoff for them? (If indeed anybody that worked on it and knows the code enough to fix it still works there.)

Go to Steam > Library > Right click Grand Theft Auto.... > Properties > Local Files > Browse Local Files > Right click Grand Theft Auto... > Then it should be something like Gta San Andreas... And you should find a folder "Movies", after deleting that you go straight to the game without the Intro.

does anyone have a fix for the problem that when you try and open the game itself, the san andreas icon flashes up real quick on the doc and then nothing just happens? not sure if it's the high sierra problem because i literary just bought the game.

Go to Steam library > Right click GTA San Andreas > Properties > Local Files > Right click GTA San Andreas > Show package contents > Contents > Resources > Transgaming > c_drive > Program files > Rockstar games > GTA San andreas > delete movies folder.
