Just finished the game for the first time!
That was very enjoyable.
The last couple of levels (train yard and radio city) got pretty tough with the enemies being more dangerous.

It's been great fun to play and see all the updates rolling in to improve things further but overall its been great fun to go back into this iconic game with all its warts!

I actually hadn't really got into the whole retro gaming revival until this launched. After playing this game i purchased Quake 1 and 2 and then the Doom 1, 2 and 64 collection as well as the Turok trilogy.

one of the best idtech2 shooters if you ask me. it's gritty like the old days. sin is good too, but it's a little bit too squeaky clean outside of some fairly edgy humour for the time too. v1.04 just dropped, 3 patches already is a pretty big red flag for most people, but tbh the release version wasn't as bad as i thought it'd be. planning on probably beating it during the christmas holidays.

Yeah i was fine with release minus the blinding bloom on the lights but all the incoming fixes are very welcome and its feeling more and more polished while at the same time retaining some of the original jank and quirks that make these older games feel special.

To me this feels like booting up the old game but not having to fuss around with mods just to get it running. I know its not on par with a Night Dive remaster, but even lots of their earlier stuff has plenty of problems that have been left unresolved.

I'm also playing Shadow Warrior Classic (not night dive but redux) and its a pain in the ass trying to get that to run properly full screen at 4k with nice mouse movement without having to use a sourceport.... which isn't hard but i just like it working out the box.

And yea - for its day it was incredible the stuff they were trying out with level design, side quests, the gun store etc. Love it. Love the grittiness as well.

Its a blast. I'm definitely going to play through it again after the next patch.

Is there anything i need to do to get that running via steam?
I picked it up in the sale today but it just launches in a teeny tiny little window in the middle of my monitor making it unplayable.

ever tried the raze port? works great for all of the well-known build engine games. blood, duke3d, redneck rampage and shadow warrior. even supports the pc version of powerslave. that's what i use, so i'd recommend.

Yeah i just read about it actually so going to try it out.

I actually just picked up powerslave in the sales today. The vanilla steam version of that ran pretty well for me. Is the raze port significantly better then?

nice. definitely try both. i was very impressed with the raze port's performance & accuracy. as for sin? there's not really any 'port' per-se, but the best way to play it on modern systems atm is probably sin gold on gog. which is probably also on sale for like $5, lol.

I got the Steam version for the same price.
Is the GOG version different?

outside of the use of some third party glide renderers like nglide, not that i'm aware of.

Nice. Just beat it again the second time and finally ready to start upping the difficulty on next run. Tried that before but got my butt handed to me. Game is tough but fun.

Yeah i like the difficulty.
I played on Medium my first time round and going in harder for my second run now i know what to do and where to go.
really only one difficulty spike i ever found in the game if you just really didn't know what you were doing... and that was making sure you bought the magnum mod for the pistol. destroys the sewer rats in the first part of the game, then it's relatively smooth sailing from then on out once you get the shotgun & tommygun.
