do you expect it a patch to turn it to a different game or something?

Wait, they still have a long way to go.

I finished original with some fan-made tweaks few hours ago and it was top-notch.
A true gangster experience, I must say. Faithful and shining.

It's in a playable albeit broken state even with the patches. It's still filled with annoying bugs and oversights. both technical and cosmetic that makes for an uneven experience. Dreadful slowdowns, buggy exploitable AI, weird shading issues.

I think you should wait until they fix this game.

Honestly, after giving it a fair try after the latest patch it's not so bad, BUT there are still some glaring issues that simply should not be there at launch and it's baffling they haven't at least fixed those they did from the latest patch BEFORE the launch. I'm sure if they at least fixed what they already did in the latest patch the reviews would be mixed and not mostly negative.

I bought the combo pack and as a first time player I tried the original Kingpin first and IMO it's very nonituitive and is brutally unforgiving even on medium difficulty and therefore not fun for me. While playing Reloaded on medium I haven't had an issue with where to go and I completed the game with no major issues (although the game crashed twice) and I've got to admit... it was pretty fun. [Although I was surprised that the game is that short.]

Sadly, the remaster is not of the level of quality that Nightdive has accustomed us to with FANTASTIC re-releases of both Quakes and Rise of the Triad (and more), but gimme those clown awards all you want - I think this version simply just plays better and overall is a better experience for first time players. I'm sure hardcore Kingpin fans won't agree with me, but that's just my point of view.

HOWEVER, there are issues that may still be a deal-breaker:

1. Long loading times - take up to 30 seconds, tested on HDD, but I've seen same comments from people using SSD - definetely an engine issue and not a spec one. HOWEVER, to be fair, these long loading times happen only when loading the main hub (every time you enter the hub or when the game reloads you to latest save from previous hub, see point 5). When switching between maps (like in Quake 2), loading is instantenous and is even quicker than in the original game. You win some, you lose some.

2. THIS IS THE WORST ONE - Stuttering when in heavy combat - when there are multiple enemies on screen the game just looses FPS. especially when firing a shotgun. It's VERY funny to me, becuase they (Interceptor known today as Slipgate Ironworks) haven't learned how to program a shotgun since 2013. Rise of the Triad 2013 to this very day has a same issue when if you fire a shotgun the framerate drops to 15 FPS for 2 seconds. Let's hope the patch for this will come sooner than Bombshell patch they promised and never delivered :)

3. Abysmal particle system - I'm confident in saying it is the worst I've ever seen. If you shoot at a single barrel it looks like a nuclear explosion yet the damage dealt is laughable. If you shoot at crates containing equipment they explode, only if you break them with crowbar you can aquire the goods contained inside. Blood looks like the fake blood they used in Saw 3D (you know, the worst one), just horrible. It should be much darker. But the worst offender is the flamethrower. It looks really bad when you are setting the enemes on fire and even worse when you are being the one who is set on fire. Slipgate, fire the guy who works on particles, because the same issue was present in Phantom Fury demo with that horrible, HORRIBLE toothpaste gun.

4. Explosive guns damage - this may be the issue with the original as well, but I admit I haven't got this far in the original game. Explosive weapons deal laughable damge, it takes up to 4 rockets or grenades to gib an enemy - what?

5. F***ed up save system - the game claims it has autosaves, but if I die it always reverts me to my manual save and not the autosave that is made after entering a new location. You can still access the automatic saves from the main menu but the Load option from pause menu takes you the your latest manual save. Why? It shouldn't load the latest manual save, this option should take you the same menu you can access from the main menu when choosing Resume.

Graphics - I have to admit the trailer did a terrible job of conveying the difference between the remastered and original graphics. They've shown us some random tidbits of gameplay, but what should they focus on was the differences in DETAILS. That's where all of the "magic" happned. All of the small text on cardboards is readable, all of the posters on walls are readable. I do think some of them were touched upon with an upscaler, but that's a topic for a whole another debate. Additionally, all neon signs actually have neon effect and it looks rather cool. Water looks terrible, though.

I do think 3DR-impostors deserve to be dunked on, especially their Slipgate Ironworks division, because they haven't learned anything since their ROTT 2013 days. Same issues, 10 years later. But I hope they will finally learn their lesson and finally start giving us some 100% quality products right from the get go.

Everything you said sound way worse then the oroginal on gog with a fanmade patch. I dunno if buying s##t from a shady company is worth more than 8 minutes of an unzip s$$t into a folder

Yeah, I did focus on the negatives, haven't I? I did because i think 3DR should be called out on that front. I don't know how to put it, but even with these issues I listed I still enjoyed Reloaded more, but I WILL give the original one more chance. I played the original with the fan patch right from the get go btw.

I've been having loads of fun with it. No complaints and they are working on fixing the major complaints already.

After playing another hour or so of the original game I've determined the root cause of my lack of enjoyment from the orignal game... The original game is not very good. I'm sorry if I offend any OG Kingpin fan, different strokes for different folks I guess, but in its original form it is horrendous for my taste. Reloaded has some strong positives over the OG, but also does some things worse than OG. It's a you win some, you lose some situation in my eyes.

My recent post was very negative, so here's some postives:
1. This version actually gives you a fu***ing clue what to do. If you talk to NPCs the game actually gives you a quest in the topright corner of screen, if you press F at NPCs it gives you a very simplistic tree of a postive and negative response. No need to check for key bindings to weird ♥♥♥♥ like Y, X or else by default. Remember, I'm writing this as a first time player, I'm sure people who played this back in the day know what to do right from the get go.

2. The gunplay was horrible in the OG. I had trouble passing through the first level on medium. I tried Novice and well of course it was easier but armed enemies still took up to 20, I repeat 20 well-aimed shots from pistol. F**k this. It's alleviated a bit in this version, but still there are some issues like explosive weapons I mentioned before in my earlier post.

3. Pickups are VISIBLE. Pickups glow in this game and therefore are much more visible, I think they are slightly bigger too. Most of the remasters do this (including beloved Q2 remaster) so I don't see an issue here.

3. RATS. This was one of the biggest issues in the OG for me, especially on the higher levels. You needed to look at the floor at all times just to not get bitten by those fu**ers. Not very fun if I do say so myself. In Reloaded you just simply squash them.

4. The graphics. The difference may not be a night and day kind of difference, but nevertheless it's noticable. As I said before - it's mainly noticable in the details like posters and minor props (like chairs etc.). Wall textures still look iffy (proably because there are bigger) and water is the biggest offender - it looks 10 time worse than in original. In my playthrough I haven't encountered any weird shadow bugs like in Gmanlive's video.

5. Soundtrack works, which I can't say for the original even with a fan patch - you can choose the track that plays in the background. Very appreciated.

Basically it comes to this: the game plays better, but runs worse. With some really amateurish problems that haunt the company since its beginnig (that make me question if they actually know what they are doing or are just simply incompetent as in the case of the guy responsible for particles).

There are some issues in the main game that could be easliy alleviated in Reloaded. For example: Pawn-O-Matic is basically useless except for buying health and armor. Most of the times, vendors don't have the items you want because you pick them up on your way. You could make mods more expensive like 1500 for a piece but make it so you can keep them for a whole game (heavy machine gun cooling for example, the gun is useless without it)

I need to stress this - I'm all for dunking on a company that overpromises and underdelivers. This game should be better at the release 100% and I hope that they do finally get a grip (especially with Phantom Fury, because it looked so good, but the demo was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ horrible). Otherwise oof... I can hear Embracer's scythe just around the corner.

In short - NO, don't lend them your money until (if) they patch it up! Practices like this shouldn't be condoned.

The game is on discount (at least in my end). Also it's cheaper than the original which also own on steam.
They will fix it sooner or later.

This.
But with how horrendous the new graphics and UI looks like, I just do not know what the point is. Especially if there is no multiplayer.

Nop, just buy the original.

And maybe try and install Hidef skins, Kingpin: Life of Crime enhanced graphics, and https://www.moddb.com/mods/kingpin-rags-2-riches since i heard the creator will update it and steal some features from kingpin reloaded
