IIRC because the only way you can get a license for the quake 2 engine requires the dev in question to make the game open source, its just not ideal for 3DR or Interplay

slipgate fellas are already familiar with unity anyway so it's safe to trust them to use it

^ that and youl still need a license for the console versions. and we have tried that multiple times over many years. they are not interested in giving out licenses
