Yes, this is something we're constantly working on, and have various plans in place (from schedules for npcs to follow and fiddling with how the dialogue engine works a bit more to get things working better in that respect), also UI overhauls and more work on making it clear exactly how the farming system is intended to function.
I put up a temporary guide in the guides section, the important thing to remember is that this isn't like star dew valley. The farming is a means to an end, rather than end in and of itself, food exists to power up your monsters, rather than being the primary profit driving factor of your farm, as we continue to test and tweak things that'll become more and more obvious that your major methods of advancement should be in raising strong and powerful monsters, then feeding them diets of excellent meals in order to boost their stats up. (Monster stats are not ranked up like NPC ones, instead the first time you feed them a food that isn't for XP boost or healing, they'll permanently increase the stats that food provides. As you can probably already guess, feeding them meals is much more efficient than feeding them raw crops)
Hhhhmmm not sure how much changed so far but I managed to win that fight when it came out, so I might as well stay with 100% middle option
