It's been a while but I think you just feed it or talk to it. You mean the one sleeping in the river right? For the quest that's something like 'Meet the big fur creature'? (I can't remember what they're called either!)

I had the same question and it's the cave-in like rock pile off to the left of the two entrances for the previous mission. That "cave-in" clears up leaving to F-4.
