monster get in the way when you farm but monsters gain experience farming
how does your monster get to level 5
you use the dungeon or combat training field
I use combat training fields in 2 days have monster up to level 9
I have monster worth over 4k with the right side completely full of traits
to produce more than 1 essence you need a corresponding trait to do that
also this trait over rides any equipment you have on, it does not stack with equipment
I use game NPC for dungeon, monster become to weak after a while
also combat train field is faster and raises the price of monster
I plant a lots of trees, are slower at start but after 1st week never have to replant one
unless storm damage.
But everyone has there own approach, i use most of his techniques when I first started
so it is good advice, but there are other ways to develop your farm too.
First of all, the 'beast of burden' trait can only originally appear in holstaurs, though it can be passed on to any species.
Second, there's a gold trait 'quickshot' that does the exact same thing as beast of burden, it's just rarer but can appear in any species. With both quickshot 5 and beast of burden 5 you can harvest a whopping 11 times per day.
Third, you can buy two equipment items to put on your monsters that increase the essence they give per harvest, the wiztech receiver (+1 essence) and wiztech focus (+3 essence). You can usually find these from the genie merchant, but can also occasionally get them from Yonten or the racoon. With loads c*m 5 and both pieces of equipment, the monster will give 11 essence per harvest.
But wait, there's more! The 'abundant body' trait increases the number of byproducts a monster gives per harvest. The value of byproducts is determined not by species, but by the domesticity of the monster. A domesticity of 80% or higher will net you 5 star byproducts, with a value of 50 each, though you can only sell them for 38 each (and only to the racoon) or have your monsters ship them for 42 each. As the guide I'm commenting on suggests forgoing anything other than harvesting, we'll use 38 as the number.
So, with all of this together, a perfect dragon/chimera with 80+ domesticity, the traits beast of burden, quickshot, loads c*m, and abundant body at rank 5, and equipped with the two wiztech items, is a straight up money printer generating a ludicrous 9,163... uh... what was the currency called again? Whatever, we'll call it power levels, because the scouter says it generates *OVER 9000!!!* of it per day.
As my last little tip, the shards that you give to the wizard to upgrade your farm can by bought from the busty wolf merchant for 10,000 a pop by asking 'what kind of deal do you have'. Have fun making phat stacks, folks.
