Are you leveling up your characters? On my first run I didn't, and it was really tough. But after leveling up my characters during my second run the game became a lot easier.
On the top bar, the left icon shows you the character information of your party members. If there's a pink border around the icon it means your character can level up. You can assign stats (15 per level) by pressing the small + icon next to the respective 4 stats. All the way at the bottom of the character sheet you see another small icon, which will allow you to level the skills of the character.
Main char - attack with slowing debuff (mud attack) + healing food + aoe shielding
Camellia - aoe sleep every second turn
Brontide - damage + 1 target stun (great for den mothers and feral cats)
Wolf - damage (x2 when properly used) + damage with another party memeber (always Brontide)
