personally i like the two lizard people brontide and his sister and kreyton an the way to level them up is to just go in a circle putting an equal number of points into every category really makes the combat ez

well if the game gives you the same starting barn monsters, i suggest holstaurous (cow ), cat lady, goldra and protag, chances are you'll be left with just the holstaurous and the cat, ( also don't forget to raise the attack move strength of the protag, cat (cat scratches) and cow( healing for the cow )), the battle will be dragged out quite a bit but it's do-able

I use Brontide, Fio and Camellia. Made my run through the dungeon a breeze.

Used Goldra, Fio and Jaero and really had no problems, though I feel like any combination of characters would work.
Are you leveling up your characters? On my first run I didn't, and it was really tough. But after leveling up my characters during my second run the game became a lot easier.

On the top bar, the left icon shows you the character information of your party members. If there's a pink border around the icon it means your character can level up. You can assign stats (15 per level) by pressing the small + icon next to the respective 4 stats. All the way at the bottom of the character sheet you see another small icon, which will allow you to level the skills of the character.

Team that worked for me perfectly:

Main char - attack with slowing debuff (mud attack) + healing food + aoe shielding
Camellia - aoe sleep every second turn
Brontide - damage + 1 target stun (great for den mothers and feral cats)
Wolf - damage (x2 when properly used) + damage with another party memeber (always Brontide)
