how do i mine iron
there is a mine close by but i dont know how to make them mine it

They should do it automatically. What is your "mine iron"-work priority? try setting it to "5"

I just gave it a try. They will stop mining if the stockpile is full. You can try add a 1000 to the iron ore stockpile.
