friend's pass doesn't exist anymore?
I bought the game and it said your friends doesn't need to buy but now there is no way to download the game without paying. any idea why?

The online isn't necessary for this game unless you both absolutely need to play with a keyboard and mouse. Even in online, the game is split screen.

No idea about the online pass, but you can play it locally online together via Steam Remote Play Together or Parsec which I recommend most.

Check Friend Pass/Trial of A Way Out in EA app, your friend can download it for free.
